I have been very happy with my UT-210E and the leads that came with it. I mostly work on cars, appliances, and occasionally circuit boards, and the leads have been fine for that. They have a sort of plastic shroud that fits over the metal tip that leaves the distal 2 or 3 mm of the tip exposed, or that shroud can be pulled off and the whole metal tip about a cm in length is exposed. 99% of the time I work with that shroud on as it is very hard to short the tip to another nearby piece of metal when configured that way and often there is plenty of nearby metal to short to. The lead has a groove that the shroud extends over, and I suspect that the inside of the shroud has a corresponding ring or series of bumps that match it, because the shroud snaps onto the lead and won't come off unless pulled off.
Unfortunately one of the shrouds has made its way to who knows where. Into a crevice, the Bermuda triangle, perhaps a black hole. Hardly matters where as the bottom line is that it isn't coming back.
So I tried contacting Uni-T through their web site to see if they sold just that shroud part. They never replied. Their web site shows that they make many different types of multimeter leads - none of which look exactly like the ones I have. I don't know what model lead came with the 210e. It was made in April 2019 but the manual does not say what part number the leads are. There are part numbers shown on the leads on the Uni-T site but I'm not sure where to even order these from a reliable source, as searching for those usually brought up hits on AliExpress and the like, where the part shipped may be just a knock off.
Then I tried buying a set of Kaiweets KET20 from Amazon. I couldn't tell from the picture if the shroud they had exposed the tip or not. Received this set of leads today. They seem to be decently made, but they are pretty different. The tip is very sharp and the shroud covers the whole thing, so that no metal is exposed. That is, the shroud is just to protect the tip during storage. In addition even though the leads again have a groove that the shroud extends over, it doesn't feel in this case like there is any corresponding ring or bumps on the shroud, as there is no "click" when they go on or off. Feels like all that holds them on is friction. The metal tips on these leads are about 30% longer than the original Uni-T ones, and they can only be used without their shrouds, so they are a step in the wrong direction for my purposes. They are even more likely to accidentally short to something else due to their increased length.
Any suggestions for an inexpensive solution?
