Looks like v4.2.0 firmware. From other videos, apparently those of us that got the earlier 1.2.0 versions, the newer firmware is not compatible as they changed the screen. Probably why they have no downloads for years, only the random github site with the 20210525 version.

After I was a bit annoyed by the fact that the XDM1041 starts in low sampling mode, I had the idea to have an ESP32 automatically set the sampling mode to high via SCPI after starting. During the development I came up with the idea of integrating the multimeter into my home automation via WiFi/MQTT in Node Red. The prototype runs reliably, a simple circuit board is on the way. The MQTT Bridge PCB replaces the original USB board and is supplied by 5V of the XDM1041. It can be easily changed from USB to WiFi/MQTT and back. If there is enough interest in the community, I am happy to share hardware and firmware on GitHub.

Trying to run DMMEasyControl, as soon as I click on Connect the program closes (no crash).

I have other NI Visa and instruments connected (and I can't remove them just to use the application, I need to do concurrent monitoring using multiple instruments).

Anyone else had this problem?

For now I will settle with being able to record a time series of a temperature probe reading.

Hi Y´all,

I´ve got this multimeter two weeks ago, and so far so good.
What´s driving me crazy is to find a way to storage or save minor settings, like in diode mode, when the device is freshly turned on, I´ve to change the thresgold in diode mode for beeping instead at 0.5V to 0.1V or in resistance mode to change the aquisition from slow to fast? I´ve to do these mods every time the unit is power on.

My XDM1241 have firmware 4.3.0

Anyone know if this is posible?

That was exactly my issue too! That’s why I use an ESP32 to switch from Slow to Fast Acquisition Mode right after starting via SCPI. You could use the PCB to set fixed settings after each start (like diode mode). Or you could make a backup of the current settings and load them after booting, so that the last settings are always restored. This isn’t implemented yet, but I can provide the code so you can freely adjust it, if you like to tinker on that. Out of the box, the multimeter is not capable for that, from what I know.

Give me some days for setting up the repo. If you like to contribute to the project, you’re welcome. At the moment the software is vibe coded with GPT o4-mini-high in Micropython. I’m open for changes.

Frequency Counter

I tested the frequency counter and it does indeed work up to 60MHz, but you need to be aware of the minimum voltages required for the counter to work. I tested mine using a 120MHz AWG slaved to a DOCXO frequency standard and the accuracy wasn't bad. A few readings are provided below; the voltages shown are the minimum Vpp required for reliable frequency reading. The DMM was connected to the AWG via 1m of RG59 and a BNC-to-banana plug adapter:

A few pictures of the recently arrived XDM1241 device. Firmware version V4.4.0., motherboard shielded, printed text XDM1041_Analog_V1.5.1 2025.03.18. The date of making the USB port PCB is 2025.12.19.
I would like to keep the existing USB-B port, but I would like to add the Elektroarzt WiFi extender. (I don't know how yet.The published PCB looks big.)
The 18650 battery version has a constant battery voltage on pin 5 of the CO2 connector (marked in the attached picture). If connected to the ESP32 C3 Super Mini Pro +5V pin, it will be constantly on. CO2 pin 1 +5v is the correct connection point.

 Thanks to you I've just purchased one of these XDM1241 bench meters from Banggood. It was only £77.95 versus the £98 I'd paid Banggood some 2 or 3 years ago for an XDM1041. They're excellent value for the money and a better option than cluttering the bench with a couple of 9999 counts Mestek hand helds.

 Of course, they're no match to the SDM3065X as far as resolution and tempco performance are concerned but much better than those 9999 counts Mesteks I'd been using, both in terms of resolution and tempco.

 I'd already pushed the boat out on the SDM3065X, primarily for its very low temperature coefficient, before buying the XDM1041. The 6.5 digit resolution was secondary to my needs (overkill I'd thought at the time of purchase) until I realised I could monitor the lamp and crystal voltages from my LPRO 101 based rubidium frequency reference with enough precision to see variations that would have been barely perceptible with lower spec Siglent bench meter models with regard to the LPRO's temperature and supply voltage behavior.

 I've had that XDM1041 monitoring the crystal tuning voltage in my MK II GPSDO 24/7 for the past 2 or 3 years. With the backlight reduced to a more than adequate 25% mark, it only draws 1.5 watts (or less, I can't remember exactly - it might even have been as little as 1 watt) so more than acceptably low enough to leave permanently powered up. Heck! I'd considered the 22W draw of my SDS 1202X-E to be low enough to leave that more or less permanently powered 24/7 over a four or five year period until about a year ago.

 The point in this case being that such 24/7 year in year out operation has failed to show any deleterious effect on its performance, particularly with regard to the display panel's endurance - it seems just as bright and fresh as the day I set the backlight to its 25% setting. ;D

I purchased a MulticompPro MP730889 (same multimeter, different clothes). Many thanks to all contributors for documenting its quirks so well!

Anyway, since "int:record?" had been noted by EM84 in comment #236 above as being an undocumented SCPI command for pulling stored measurement values, I tried to guess at what the SCPI command might be for triggering the start of that data recording. I tried "int:start", thinking it would be safe enough...

NOT SAFE! Unfortunately, it actually triggers the factory calibration process mentioned by UniSoft above in comment #196... I aborted it with a power off before it could get past the DC voltages, but it did leave me with wildly inaccurate cal factors for the DC voltage ranges. Luckily, I could fix it using a benchtop power supply, another multimeter for reference, and the instructions left by kwass in reply #202.

Hi,

did anybody try to remove the batteries out of a XDM 1241?
After removing the adhesive tape above they're still sitting like glued into the slot. I didn't want to damage the cells by violence. Do they need some heat treatment?

I've seen a quite high self discharge with the XDM so I want to test the cells separately by a external load.

Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) will soften the glue. Put the right amount and wait few minutes. No damage to cells.

Of course is under the battery. Keep away from display to avoid spots on screen. If IPA will enter between LCD filters layers then some damage can occur. IPA with 99% concentration will not damage the battery or mainboard regardless how much are you using.
