It's GPIB communication. There is a variant with Ethernet, but I don't have that.

GPIB may be the issue, I have not tried binary communication through a GPIB interface and in this case we are talking a single message that is a few kb long and may contains EOL characters.

I switched from Prologix to 82357B to see if there was any difference between the GPIB speed or output, and there's not.

I tried it externally with the Keysight and Prologix GPIB adapters, and it works either way. I was able to convert and enlarge it with python.

The attached bin.txt file is the raw result from the python script before conversion. Removing the #43942 from the start of the file makes it work as a bmp file.

Try manually setting the current from the command window in TC and see what the response is there. Do CURR:LEV 100u (or 0.1m or 0.0001 or whatever), then follow up with a CURR:LEV? and see what it says.

I do not know, it is very long time since I wrote the code and I have never tested it with blocks.
But I do remember that the code is designed to handle ascii commands and that the block read uses 3 separate calls to read a block (Number of digits in length, length, data), either one of these factors may be a reason for issues.

I had this problem with 1 SCPI command of my Owon LCR that did not allow a setting to be the absolute minimum. When setting is to 100.000001mV it took the command and rounded it to 100mV again when I did a :read:.

Are there any plans to implement something like this? I'd be wiling to help test and possibly provide access to the device.

May be you can get de serial interface working by connecting a device with serial connection to the gateway and then access it over a port from the LAN that emulates the serial port. I do not think the Agilent GPIB adapter is supported by TestController.

I use a PUSR DR132/DR162 for serial connections over LAN with TestController together with some Virtual COM port software on windows. I let TestController connect to the Virtual COM port and the PUSR device will transfer  it via LAN or WiFi to the serial port of my measurement device. That works great, without making any modification in TestController or definitions that I use. May be your Agilent 5810A can do a similar thing.

I did not have time to test, but I think you are right about the ^ character, which is also in the attached manual specs.

TEMP 0025 ^C or TEMP -0025 ^C is the output

#askValues \r in the definition retrieves it.

Did you try this: change existing #value and #askValue and add the other two lines:

I attached the new definition, but I did not test it.

May be remove the ° altogether so #value Temperature C int TEMP will work after the modification.

If it doesn't, maybe HKJ knows a way to change the answer from #askValues and remove the ^ character for the SingleValue driver.
