My fellow TEAbees,

since signing up to this lovely forum I piled up a bunch of test equipment - who should have known! >:D
Still being a student myself I know that money is always a little short. However, I did manage to hunt down quite some stuff for little money that either needed fixing or that just no one else wanted.

I am thinking of putting together a bundle of gear for someone that can not afford it otherwise.

Mainly I am thinking about giving away my light weight 1MHz Voltcraft oscilloscope and a Voltcraft 6010 DMM of which I own a couple and absolutely love :)
I already donated an Ersa 250MS soldering station to a friend that would have fit nicely here - maybe I can manage to find another decent station to include.
Also, I am screening through my hand tools such as pliers, screw drivers etc. to see what might be useful. There is a set of standard Bosch bits (PH, PZ, TX), a soldering aide (third hand) with magnifying glass and some other stuff.

My question is: Do you think it is worth giving this kind of "vintage" gear away for someone starting out or does it hold back a beginner more than it is useful?

Kind regards,
Frederik

I can't speak to the usefullness or not of your giveaway.  I do want to say that you should be commended for having a good heart and a willingness to help your fellow man.  As Dave would say, "Good on ya!"
"Heaven has been described as the place that once you get there all the dogs you ever loved run up to greet you."

Personally, over the years I have often learned more from working around the limitations that equipment or budgets have placed on me. So I'd say go for it, you won't be holding someone back by giving them something they don't already have, and you may even eventually help them more than if they were given the best, newest, and shiniest tools available.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Thanks for encouraging me to just go ahead.
I posted to the beginners forum, so if you know someone in the EU that is in need for some basic gear, please point him/her to that thread or comment in favor of that person to be entered into the drawing pool.
