Rigol DG5102 Func/Arb WG
« on: July 28, 2011, 06:20:34 am »
So I just received my 'brand new' Rigol DG5102 (which cost a fortune plus 1) and discovered that the Self Test menu option can not be selected (it's dimmed out). Furthermore the FRAM (whatever that is) is faulty according to the test info on screen.

Has anyone else experienced these issues with their Rigol WG's?  :-\

Thanks,
Kevin

There is one here:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=1140.0

That short report suggests the firmware is buggy but it does work.

But it is a Rigol. If you read the Rigol fanboys all over the Internet you know that Rigol never fails, their instruments can walk on water, and their support is delivered by mayan virgins.

I have been watching your coments. You dont  comment often but when you comment you make my day. The mayan virgins support idea is really a nomination for the post of a year :-)

I would be interested to ( read ) the voice of Rigol about this.

Send them one email, and share with us their answer.

An Agilent arb is in that price range.

i mean i dont get it. the op asked for experience with rigol AWG, and then came the 5k AWG suggestion. did the OP consider to buy 5k AWG and then later decided to buy rigol?

You didn't miss anything, you just don't believe your eyes.  The Rigol is a pretty fancy piece of kit, 100MHz, up to 1Gs/s 14-bit dual channel generator with specs pretty comparable to the Tek AFG3102, and about the same price.  I see the Rigol here in the US for $5000-$5500.  I think the Tek may have slightly less jitter, perhaps less memory; and can be had for a bit (but not much) less used on Ebay.

Personally, If I really had the need and the budget, and couldn't find something used, I'd go for the Tek.  At least there ethernet/GPIB/SCPI stacks are likely well debugged since they've been around a long time.  If simple UI stuff isn't perfect, I worry about what's hidden underneath.

If the Rigol and Tek are similar spec and price, who in their right mind would buy Rigol?

Well to tell you the truth wherever i see words like "rigol" and "f.g" i immediately think about DG1022 because i would not think somebody would buy the model mentioned here
