SDS5034 replacement knobs
« on: June 04, 2026, 02:36:57 am »

Hi Guys,

the knobs on my beloved SDS5034X are deteriorating. Literally turning into dust.

Is there a source for new knobs, and does anybody have a 3D printer model (stm ?) for all sizes?

Many Thanks !

A 3D printer might be your best option.

I tried finding knobs when I briefly had an SDS5000X and didn't have any luck. You could try emailing Siglent.

They want $4 USD for each replacement knob.

I think that's a great deal for a device that still costs around €3,000 today.

$4 is reasonable, unfortunately. Most of the knobs on there have more than just molded plastic.

I've spent a lot more than $4 per knob for guitar or pro audio stuff. Much cooler than scope knobs though ;): https://www.wdmusic.com/q-parts-jumbo-skull-knob-ii-details.html

Dear Friends,

Thank you all for your replies!

I am surprised that many of you think $4 USD per knob is reasonable. They cost $0.10 to make (in qtty).

The ones I had 3D-printed came out great, except the large ones were a bit too large; I am getting them redone a bit smaller.

I placed the "small" knobs in most positions now and think it looks great!  The scope is a tool, not a piece of art ;-) )

$4 ea is not unreasonable for a scope of this capability.....try getting 14 HPAK, R&S or Tek encoder knobs for $56 ! :scared:
IIRC you were an early adopter of SDS5000X so divide $56 by the # of years you've had it for an annual cost of ownership.

I've sold only a few 5000 but a good few other models also use these rubberized encoder knobs too but never had anyone ask for replacements so wondering if your climate has led to their failure.  :-//

Go to any store and look up any generic knobs. They all will be from 1-2 € to more than 10€..
There is a difference between what you and I think is reasonable and what is the market price. Welcome to capitalism.

I personally would gladly give 4€ per knob instead of having weird looking improvised 3D printed knobs. And they will not be free either, and there is also time and effort.

You do you..

For full disclosure, I don't like metallic painted knobs of that design, because the surface gets damaged very quickly.

I guess it also depends on demographic.

I live in Thailand and do most of my shopping on AliExpress (and LCSC/Mouser for parts).

Knobs are less than $2 USD for 10 on AliExpress, if you can find what you need. But yes, I feel for you
guys in the west (and east), you have been brainwashed to accept paying 50x for what it takes to make
a piece of plastic. :D

Another reason I would rather not buy the original knobs is that they are made from this rubber plastic and
will break down in 3 years again. The hot and humid weather is tough on rubbery plastics.

Anyway, once I get the final "large" knobs done, I will share another picture !

Thank you all for the delightful discussion! :)

Supply and demand isn't the same thing as brainwashing. ;)

Do those 3D printed knobs work ok with the knobs that are also buttons?

Just to make sure you understand. Your comments are a little tone deaf. I am not offended, just saying.

We are not "brainwashed" or stupid. It is called market. You completely ignored that I said that I, same as you, know what the manufacturing price is.  But what you don't understand, like many people out there, is that manufacturing price of item has nothing to do with market price.

And if everybody that sells a product where I am able to buy it from sells knobs at 5€ and I cannot get them cheaper, that is what "normal" price is.

Nobody is stupid so they like paying more..

It is just market works on take it or leave it principle.  So you can either buy or manufacture it by yourself.
Which until 3D printing was pretty much something very few people could do.

And with 3D printing, now you can make something functional, but it looks like a prototype/improvisation. Good for prototype, or temporary solution.
But to me, putting these ugly improvised buttons on a 5000€ scope that makes it look like unprofessional crap is something that I would not do. I would put something like that on a 50€ something from AliExpress, sure..

So yes, I would pay 4€ for knobs just for my expensive scope to keep looking like something professional.
As it was mentioned, excessive is what Keysight asks for knobs these days.

I understand that you could note care less about looks, and you found what is good solution for you. Good for you and all others that are interested in such solution.

To each his own.

... or location?

For $ 4,- we can just get one glass mineral water in a restaurant where I live.

Furthermore, we are used to the fact that spare parts are expensive. If, for instance, you'd try to build a car from ground up using nothing but spare parts, its price would most likely increase by more than ten times. Situation doesn't seem quite as bad for Siglent testgear - we'd certainly not need to spend 50k $ for building an SDS5000X from spare parts exclusively.

I fully understand that proportions in other countries might be different and four dollars will probably buy you more than just a glass of water in your place. So it's great that you have the opportunity to produce your own spare parts at a fraction of the costs - especially if the original knobs aren't even durable in your place.

Hi Josh,

yes, they work 100%. Push and rotate are not changed.

Hi Gyus,

this is the final result. The photo is very detailed and shows all the imperfections, which you don't see when sitting in front of the unit.

Either way, final cost was about $6USD, I am very happy with the result.

Cheers,
luudee
