Siglent SDS1102CML Scope and EasyScopeX
« on: July 05, 2013, 04:38:08 pm »
Hi

Has anyone got EasyScopeX working with their Siglent scope at all?

Darned if we can get it working, pesky thing.

PC: Intel i7 2.6GHz 3GB mem

OS: Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit

Scope system status screen details:
Software Version: 5.01.02.13
Hardware Version: 11-62-3.3
Product Type: SDS1102CML
Serial No: blah bla blah bla blah

Fully installed and fully updated visa512full.

Installed EasyScopeX

Visa seems to work without any problems but EasyScopeX just crashes as soon as we try to run it.

Any ideas?

As I have told here

Quote
New EasyScopeX have still lot of bugs.
Screen capture can use. Nearly all other things are useless.
Command mode can use (SCPI commands)

]I hope they soon update this first version crap. Also example virtual panel settings positions have been totally wrong - perhaps for other model, CFL?) If with some experiment find where they are it can just barely use but - useless. (and same for LeCroy patched software)

EDIT addendum:
There have been confusion between versions.
I have used old easyscopeX version shared with new scopes CD.
And Siglent download side did not show version. After download it show that version is more new.
Now I do not yet know how this version work.

What we need is a decent open sourced scope where a community of experienced programmers could be let loose on developing the software/firmware. We'd then start to see some really nice scope GUI's and PC GUI's where we could at least tackle the problems ourselves.

Nop, didn't work out. There was a decent one, for its time, the Wittig/Welec. Wittig went bankrupt, not the least because their firmware was really fecked up. They rebranded as Welec and continued to sell NOS of the oscilloscopes. Somewhere in the chaos the firmware became open source.  It took the open source community ages to come up with a barely working replacement. It took so long that the hardware got dated.

These days it is hard to get the hardware. If you have it and want to play with the firmware:

The question we are dealing with, At first, you can install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (if your system has not installed the "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5" )
If there are problems, we will continue to support

In order to better solve the problem, I hope you can give a more detailed description of the steps,  system and version information.

Hi,

I purchased Metravi (india) DSO-5070A on 27-Aug-2013 from Lynx-India. This is manufactured by Siglent and known as SDS1072CML. Making EasyScopeX work was like hitting a wall. It was due to, lack of properly defined steps and software prerequisites in the manual.

Yesterday, after lot of R&D I figured out steps that made every time EasyScopeX work and recognize the oscilloscope on three different machines viz Windows XP Pro SP3 (32-bit), Windows 7 SP1 (32-bit) and Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit). I am mentioning those steps here to save others from wasting time and re-inventing wheel. These steps must be followed strictly.

Caution: DO NOT CONNECT OSCILLOSCOPE TO COMPUTER'S USB PORT UNTILL BELOW STEPS ARE FULLY FOLLOWED.

Warning: I am not liable/responsible, if things goes wrong at your end. Follow, below steps at your own risk.

Note: On Windows 7, run installers with administrative privileges.

Download and Installations
======================

1. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service pack 1 (Full Package) [http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=25150]
=====================================================
1.1 Windows XP SP3 (32/64 bit): Download and Install if not previously done.
1.2 Windows 7 or Windows 7 SP1 (32/64 bit): Enable it from Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows Features On and Off.

2. Reboot machine after installing or enabling the .Net Framework 3.5 SP1.

3. IVI Shared Components [http://www.ivifoundation.org/shared_components/Default.aspx]
======================
3.1 Download and Install IviSharedComponents_x.x.x.msi or IviSharedComponents_x.x.x.exe on 32-bit Windows. IviSharedComponents64_x.x.x.msi or IviSharedComponents64_x.x.x.exe on 64-bit Windows.
3.2 Download and Install (VISA Shared Component) IviVisaSharedComponents32_x.x.msi on 32-bit Windows or IviVisaSharedComponents64_x.x.msi on 64-bit Windows.

4. Reboot machine after installing IVI shared components.

5. NI-VISA 5.1.2 [http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/2914/lang/en]
==============
5.1 Register on NI site to download NI-VISA 5.1.2
5.2 Download NI-VISA 5.1.2 (574.97 MB).
5.3 During installation choose to install .Net Framework 3.5 support under "Development" and "Measurement & Automation Explorer" menus. Leave others in default state.

6. Reboot machine after installing Ni-VISA 5.1.2

7. Open Measurement & Automation Explorer.

8. Turn On oscilloscope and make sure the back USB port is set to "USBTMC" mode. Follow manual to perform the same.

9. Temporarily disable Internet connection on computer to prevent Windows searching drivers online because it eventually fails to find suitable driver for USBTMC devices.

10. Connect oscilloscope to computer's USB port.

11. Windows must recognize and install the device as "Test and Measurement Devices (IVI)". The device will appear in "Measurment & Automation Explorer" as USB::manufacturer-ID::model-code::serial-number::INSTR. Please note INSTR.

12. Finally, install EasyScopeX and ADD your device. (Reboot computer if required)

If you have followed steps strictly. I am pretty confident that EasyScopeX will show your device and ADD it easily.

===========================================================================================================
In case you previously tried to connect oscilloscope with or without installing prerequisites and messed up things on computer. Please follow the below steps

1. Right Click > My Computer > Properties > Advanced Tab > Environment Variables.
2. Under System variables > Press "New" Button
3. Type "DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES" in Variable name and set Variable value to "1".
4. Right Click > My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager.
5. Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices.
6. Uninstall greyed out devices under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
7. If you see greyed out device showing device model number, uninstall it.
8. It is good practice to uninstall greyed out devices time to time as this make your computer neat and tidy.
9. Uninstall IVI, VISA and NI-VISA. Delete their physical folders as well from "Program Files" location after reboot.
10. Delete files from "C:\Documents and Settings\<User-Profile>\Local Settings\Temp" (Hidden) on XP machine. In Windows 7 "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp" and "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Temp".
11. Use Free CCleaner to clear registry entries. It can be downloaded from [http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/]
12. Reboot computer and follow installation steps mentioned above.

Regards,

Yes, you are absolutely right, their EasyScopeX is terribly written. I would also love to have custom one. The only thing stopping me is programming skills.

I've been told by Siglent there is a NI-Visa version that supports Win 8:
http://www.ni.com/download/ni-visa-5.3/3823/en/

Could someone confirm this works OK and the driver name it installs please.
