TEquipment.NET selling 160 x 120 thermal cameras for below $1,000

They're made by a company called Dwyer. Anyone know if they're any good?

I saw the same deal and came here wondering the same thing!  Pretty high resolution for pretty cheap.

I imagine they're feeling some pressure from the sub-$1000 80x60 FLIR E4 ("oh, look, it's still easily hackable to 320x240!") for professional users, and from the $200 Seek (206x156) for casual experimenters.

The Dwyer unit might be outstanding, but if they aren't already an entrenched brand, the new competitive landscape must be harsh indeed.

I doubt this is a real thermal camera. According to the datasheet it sounds more like a IR spot thermometer with a lepton sensor attached to it. Much like the Flir TG165.

Are we looking at different things? I see the manufacturer's information page here:

It's shown as a "Discontinued Product", but it does claim an IR resolution of 160x120.

A quick perusal of their website doesn't turn up any comparable current products. I wonder if they've decided to bail out in the face of inevitable price and resolution wars...

It seems the company is rather desperate to get rid of them. On the other hand, the reviews are pretty positive...

Actually I just noticed today one of their cheaper products (80x80):

Thanks for the heads-up. 

I picked one up and used the forum discount which made the price $430.

Must be a tough market to have to cut the price that drastically.  I guess I'll see if it was worth it or not.
