Not so much a new piece of TE, but a new shop helper.  Boxer Shepard mix, 6 weeks old and what a hand full she is already.  Goes from sleep to crazy then back to sleep before you know what hit you.

Meanwhile behind the facade of this innocent looking bookstore;

Got the 427A  nearly fully restored and calibrated.  The 4329A checked out perfectly and needs only the slide on feet to make it complete.

Dogs are better than cats in the lab. Look, it was Caturday yesterday so I am allowed. Cats just stroll and climb around and sit on top of nice warm equipment and piss in the vents while wafting their tails right in front of your VDU or CRO.

Dogs will actively join you on your investigation and troubleshooting, staying below the bench and just eager to lend a wet nose and notice your excitement at figuring out a fault and will jump up offering moral team work support, they also know to stay under the bench when you are getting irate at the job not working quite how you hoped. Of course you can de-stress by relaxing with a cup of tea and give your dog some strokes and treats. Dogs are also great when working under your car, when you curse to fuck about a seized bolt or tight oil filter and then you get a wet nose and tongue in your face to make you right.

Damn. I miss my dogs. Eldest was 20 years and youngest to go was 16 years (and that good boy was the one I never imagined getting spleen cancer, he was so fit! 'Macbeth' was one of my dogs.)

The Dog’s Diary

8:00 am - Dog food! My favorite thing!

9:30 am - A car ride! My favorite thing!

9:40 am - A walk in the park! My favorite thing!

10:30 am - Got rubbed and petted! My favorite thing!

12:00 pm - Milk bones! My favorite thing!

1:00 pm - Played in the yard! My favorite thing!

3:00 pm - Wagged my tail! My favorite thing!

5:00 pm - Dinner! My favorite thing!

The Cat’s Diary

Day 983 of My Captivity

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am. Bastards!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of “allergies.” I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now ...
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

The Dog’s Diary[/b]
...

My daughter's dog's diary is rather different, and displays a marked degree of monomania...

8:00 am - Woken up to have a pee.

8:10 am - Ate a snack, then went back under the blanket.

9:00 am - Brought ball to owners, but they wouldn't play. Went back to bed.

10:00am - Brought ball to owner. They threw it, I fetched it, my favourite thing.

10:30 am - Dropped ball in an owner's bath to get them to throw it. They wouldn't.

12:00 pm - Ate a snack. Brought ball to owner. They threw it, my favourite thing.

1:00 pm - Brought ball to owner. They threw it, I fetched it, my favourite thing.

3:00 pm - Going out for a walk. Brought ball to owners, but they made me leave it behind because they want me to play with other dogs.

3:10 pm - Frightened by a motorbike, but I viciously attacked it, it backed down and retreated. Thank dog I can defend my owners.

4:00 pm - Chased a ball substitute, but it escaped up a tree. My second favourite thing.

5:00 pm - Ate lunch, because owners wouldn't play ball.

6:00 pm - Brought ball to owner. They threw it, I fetched it, my favourite thing.

6:03 pm - Interrupted fetching the ball to chase a mouse, but couldn't get to it.

6:06 pm - Brought ball to owner. They threw it, I fetched it, my favourite thing.

7:00 pm - Brought ball to owner. They threw it, I fetched it, my favourite thing.

8:00 pm - Wow! Watched TV with the people! My favorite thing!

10:00 pm - Chased smells into neighbouring gardens, had a pee.

11:00 pm - Sleeping on the bed! My favorite thing!

POSTED FOR NEO.

That looks like a kit or home built. Yes?

heath IB-1100.

only 30Mhz and not very sensitive.  have never felt a need to open it up and look inside, so no idea about the build quality.

bought it about 10 years ago and it has been sitting in the basement on top of a stack of real counters.

BECAUSE it is NIXIE.

Welcome. Are you looking for a plain emission tube tester or a mutual conductance tube tester? The former just tests for cathode emission and shorts. The later performs much more complete testing simulating actual operating conditions. The former can be had fairly cheaply on Ebay. The later is much more expensive and desirable.

Not everybody reads this thread, so you might get a wider response if you split that out as a separate thread.

(SNIP)The Cat’s Diary

Day 983 of My Captivity

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. do horrendous things to perfectly good meat; carrying it home from parts unknown in containers magically made of tree, then they put it in the magic winter box until they feel it is time to eat rather than hunting it fresh and wriggling themselves! Worse yet, rather than tear into it wet and raw and bleeding like all proper meals, they insist on burning it with their demonically tamed fire and contaminating it with bits of weed and crushed minerals. Sacrilege! Somehow I must destroy them for this crime against the Goddess of the Hunt. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. I haven't figured out how to destroy them; my fiercest domination dance only serves to encourage them, whereupon they lavish me with attention and "petting"... damn them and their wily ways. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this demonstration might win them over to the Goddess' side; clearly they are defective and don't know how to hunt. would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities.  However, they merely made condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am. Ignorant heathen bastards! Dammit, people I'm trying to save your immortal souls!

Damn them and their magical petting hands! FOILED AGAIN!!!

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My problem with Radio, HAM or CB is, I enjoy how it works more than talking to the people you often find there.  Been licensed as an Extra since I was 13, 30 years ago now, but not been very active for the last 10.  I miss the technical discussion and could not care less for the arguing and mindless banter.
