Unknown Tek 491 connector? (With teardown)
« on: June 10, 2014, 01:36:45 am »
Hi,

I just got a Tek 491 10MHz-40GHz spectrum analyzer (40GHz with external mixer) for USD110 on EBay. It was claimed to be working, but Band B (275MHz-2GHz) has a missing part, which is most probably a N to ? connector converter. However, due to my lack of experience in RF, I have no idea what the connector is called, so can anyone please enlighten me on what the connector is, and even better, tell me how to get a N to ? adaptor? Thanks! (bonus teardown attached).

Best regards,
QuantumPhys

Hi,

The connector is an SMB connector.

The missing parts is item 46 on the front panel assembly. It is described as:

-46    103-0057-00   ADAPTER, connector

So it may just be an adapter from N to SMB.

The spectrum analyzer may work on band A without the adapter. The adapter looks like it is part of the band B input section.

Thanks! Got band A working, and I have ordered the converter on EBay. Hope that the performance will not be affected too much!
