Visualizing Stepper Motor Characteristics for Qualification
« on: October 06, 2025, 02:06:55 pm »
Hi everyone,

I have a stepper motor that I’d like to study in more depth.
My goal is to visualize its main characteristics in order to qualify it properly — for example, its current, speed, torque, and position during operation.

I’d like to understand which parameters are the most relevant to measure and how to visualize them effectively (e.g., using graphs).

Do you have any recommendations, examples, or measurement setups for analyzing a stepper motor’s behavior in detail?

Thanks in advance for your insights!

Check these and other from clough42...

You may use his 'testing method' while capturing more data

Just to clarify — I’m not planning to test the motor using an oscilloscope like in the video.
What I’m mainly trying to figure out is which of the following parameters are essential to determine the reliability and overall quality of the stepper motor:

- Current
- Voltage
- Rotational speed
- Torque / Load
- Electrical power
- Winding resistance (R)
- Inductance (L)

In other words, which of these are the key indicators that truly help qualify the motor’s performance and reliability?
