what's wrong with this 87V Fluke ?

Today, out of the blue, I turned my Fluke on and the display seems broken. What can possibly be wrong with the unit? I bought it brand new, it's only 1 1/2 year old. Every time I short the probes, I can see highlighted symbols.

Was it dropped? It looks like the display has shifted a bit. You may need to open the meter and reset the display properly on the zebra connectors.

I concur with Wytnucls, but your unit is still under warranty at 1.5 years old. It is odd behavior for new device. That's a great link for fixing the LCD too for anyone who isn't a take it apart' type, kudos to you.

No, I didn't drop it. It just happened. One day it was good, other day I turned it ON and that was it. I took it apart just removed those rubber strips then put it back together and it seems better. It's not 100% but it's better then it was, so it might eventually need some cleaning. I have RMA but I think I will wait see what happens.

I would send it back to Fluke. Is still under warranty and when they repair it they probably re calibrate.
