Questions about homemade solid chopper wheel for BST cameras

Hello friends.
I saw some people made their own chopper wheel for BST cameras, I think it's very interesting:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/thermal-imaging/argus-3-(bst)-teardown-and-repairs/?all
(post #15-18)
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/thermal-imaging/raytheoncadillac-deville-camera-3d-printable-focusing-mod-and-chopper-wheel/?all
(cropped resolution)
I have some questions:
Does this solid version improve SNR / contrast, compare to the original version? (Since they block/pass IR more completely than original) (Ignore the halo effect difference, just pure contrast under low delta-T scenes)
Does the material/surface/paint matters?
Thank you!
