Create Connector Plug Housing Parts
« on: February 25, 2026, 05:31:43 pm »
I am looking to start using the harness design features of Altium but I haven't found any good walkthroughs on making your own parts in the library for the harness components such as plug housings and terminals.

I've done a little bit of googling but figured I would ask here and I'm sure others have asked similar questions but they asked multiple questions in one post and the specific thing I'm interested in got glossed over.

If this is a true repeat I apologize. My first question is, do I make the plug housing in the 365 library as a component in a similar way to making standard PCB components, or is there another place that these are meant to be made?

I feel dumb now but I will let the community benefit from my impatience...

Altium does have a walkthrough, it does use the 365 library.

https://www.altium.com/documentation/altium-designer/harness-design/workspace-component?srsltid=AfmBOopm5vFe625Blr8g_SWdDLbvCeOGuvfKxmju9rXYpt1JRc8aABfT#creation-using-the-component-editor-single-component-editing-mode

Wire/conductor elements will use the "Add Harness Wiring" under the Models section of the new component. Connector housings will use the Symbol and Footprint options like a normal PCB component.
