WTB: 40-50mw IR laser diodes
« on: May 02, 2015, 09:10:52 am »
Looking for a quality source (qty: 10) laser diodes
40-50mw output
Wavelength in 810-850nm range...  Infra-Red

Any suggestions at a reasonable price?

For quality try  https://www.thorlabs.com
For price try http://www.aliexpress.com
For both try asking someone on the forum http://photonlexicon.com/forums/index.php  (someone there will likely have some good quality 2ndhand diodes they could send you)
There are people on that forum who know more about lasers than industry as a whole.

If you can use 808nm, these are very common as pump diodes for DPSS lasers

Ahh - ok
Thanks for both ideas.  808nm will be fine.

Your in Australia, good luck importing them. I am also an amateur astronomer and many of the people on forum in Australia find it hard to import, even when they are allowed to import them. The maximum I am allowed to import is 5mW. Mine are green, Red is useless in my application.

Unless you have a licence you run the risk of importing what is considered a weapon in Australia. At best you will lose it at worst not sure if a fine at the most or depending on the power a conviction.

The last time I looked, the 5mw law was applicable to handheld laser pointers.
I've been repairing / making safe (!) various technology lasers for people (stage, medical etc) and have had zero problems when importing 0-800mw visible parts...

No Laser 'pointers' though.
Interested to learn of any variations.

Most laser regs only apply to complete products - there shouldn't be issues with components, but your avarage customs person is probably not going to know the difference.
Probably wise to ask the seller not to use the word "laser" on customs forms.
