Attachments position ?
« on: July 14, 2016, 03:31:40 am »
How do you get attachments to appear in the text instead of all at the bottom?
- Had a quick search.
.  That took much longer than I thought it would.

Assuming you mean attaching an image and entering it in your post, put image tags around the URL of the image you want to post.

[ img] URL [ /img]

This does mean you will need to host the image somewhere (ie temporary/free image host website), not attach it via the typical method at the bottom of the post window.

If you want to embed the images at the bottom of your post in the text at full size:
Post your reply/post.
Click on the images at the bottom of your post to make them full size.
Right click, “Copy image address”.
Edit your post and paste the URL into the image tags mentioned above.
Now the image is referenced from the one hosted on Daves server and will not vanish in the future.

There may be an easier way, but thats the way I understand it.
Where are we going, and why are we in a handbasket?

Not if you want it served from Dave's hosting.

That works but bear in mind only those who are logged on will be able to see it.

Might I suggest to examine how members successfully attach pics or embed them so use the Quote post and examine the syntax. Then just "go back" in your browser.

I try to compress any pic that does not require great detail to reduce the space used on Daves server and find that less than 100 Kb is generally sufficient quality.

Yep, use "Attachments and other options", select your file location (local or remote) and "(more attachments)" if more are required.

Post the reply, then copy the pic thumbnail URL of your uploaded pic, then Modify your post and Paste the URL in the part of the post you want it, THEN highlight it with your mouse and then click on the Insert Image button.
This will embed the URL within the [ img] URL [ /img] as RobertHolcombe describes.

Just curious, is there any way to make the thumbnails at the bottom appear full size by default?

There's a few tricks, the best one I can't rediscover (find)...yet.

That thread had embedded large images within the text (quite good resolution) but the best bit was those images were themselves links to the external server that hosted them and when clicked opened another browser tab with high res full page pics.  :-+ Real classy IMHO.

What irks me more is I can't remember which EEVbog member posted them.

Pic links that open a full page the same as the thumbnails at the foot of the post.

Nowadays I just upload pictures to Flickr and copy & paste the image links. No size restrictions and no hassle with copying links to images. Also the preview works with pictures.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Haha, thanks. I'll live in hope then.  :)  I think remember seeing it done in one post a while back.

I normally don't like images being somewhere else, they seem to go missing, so this seems the way.

But of course I can't help wondering what happens if you come back a 3rd time and remove the attachments but leave the links to them!

.  That took much longer than I thought it would.
