How about LOAD "*",8,1 and then going off to toast a sandwich, make a cuppa etc...
Ah, the 1541, the slowest disk drive in the known universe.
It was a serial disk drive, it even had it's own 6502 CPU onboard, yet it was slower than the C64 tapes with turbo loaders. Whoever designed it should have been shot. Also having to LOAD "*",8,1 would wipe out your own BASIC program with a pile of crud DIR listing.
I had a BBC Model B back then and the drives were like lightning compared to that POS. I even found a way of saving BBC BASIC libraries of code to disk and *LOAD'ing them at random bits of memory space as a kind of paged RAM from disk, in order to run my own BBS software. Those were the days. If only Acorn implemented "half-brite" and so had 16 colours like the C64 instead of those lousy flashing colours.
Commodore only got serious with the release of the Amiga. Sadly that fat bastard Jack Tramiel ditched it so he could "compete" in the PC market (hahaha... doomed to failure).
Such a shame that Atari didn't take on their own designers invention and went for the cruddy ST as retaliation.
