He looks ferocious but is a complete softie... He'd just roll over and expect a belly rub!

Here's my literally humongous cat Dexter with a wine bottle for scale ;)

For an unhealthy quantity more pictures of Dexter and his sister from another mister:-

Speaking of fluffy cats... these two are the first time I've had longhair cats. Meet Fluff and Alice. Sisters, rescued when very small and near death from a wild cat colony. They have the most placid, friendly personalities I've ever known in a cat. Even the other cats here like them.  Alita (battle angel) adopted them as kittens!

Aptly named, both of them.

Thanks!  They're rescues that came from Egypt.  Nixie was an un-named kitten, so I bestowed his moniker from the start before he began his journey west.  Faraday had been named Mickey by his rescuer (he was dropped off on her doorstep; the theory is that they were using him for breeding and discarded him when they were done.  She's known as a cat rescuer so someone left him); Mickey to Michael to Faraday seemed a logical evolution for his name.  The rescuers had called the orange Persian Bob, and with his crazy beard-like ruff I made the leap to Pease, naming him after Bob Pease.

Unfortunately Pease couldn't get along with my older cats and to my dismay I had to re-home him.  He's now living in upstate NY and being spoiled rotten, so all is well, but I still miss him.  He was very friendly and fine with me and his fellow Egyptians, but not so much with the other cats I already had.

I don't think they generally would, Ed. Unless they had previously had a real life experience with such a hole!!
As 'Humans', we only perceive such illusions, including shapes/perspective due to real life experiences when little.
Some tiny kittens are 'afraid' standing on high glass, as something seems to be pre-programmed into their brains!
And I've had cats that go berserk watching say birds or other cats on TV, and others that don't acknowledge their existence!!   :palm:
Diagonal of 1x1 square = Root-2. Ok.
Diagonal of 1x1x1 cube = Root-3 !!!  Beautiful !!

I don't think you actually need to fall off a cliff to learn not to fall off a cliff (and, by extension, black holes) - humans (and normally reared kittens) seem to know that visually when they are very young (it's a little more complicated than that) - see the famous Gibson visual cliff experiments in 1960s.

but..it seems that cats CAN be "fooled" by some kinds of visual cues - see "If I fits I sits" where cats would sit or stand in Kanizsa contour illusions https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0168159121001258?dgcid=coauthor#bib0010 unless they are just messing with "citizen scientists", which is entirely possible :)

A well-known phenomenon to cat owners is the tendency of their cats to sit in enclosed spaces such as boxes, laundry baskets, and even shape outlines taped on the floor. This investigative study asks whether domestic cats (Felis silvestris catus) are also susceptible to sitting in enclosures that are illusory in nature, utilizing cats’ attraction to box-like spaces to assess their perception of the Kanizsa square visual illusion.

(from: https://www.npr.org/2021/05/10/994262792/cats-take-if-i-fits-i-sits-seriously-even-if-the-space-is-just-an-illusion)

The rotating snake illusion is another that cats seem to perceive like humans.

The indoor sinkhole is only a sinkhole when viewed from where the camera is. It wouldn't make any sense viewed from where the cats are, so even if they were susceptible they would have to come round to where the camera is in order to taken in. Since they walk all over it before coming around to where they might see it as a hole, they know it isn't.

Keeps the cat amused for hours. If only there were something like that for the dog. Might stop him from digging up the damn yard for once.

I've seen cats watch as new humans crawl toward the stairs and would intervene at just the right moment.

Keep tv84 away from the cat though. You never know what features get unlocked!

Quite so and she was still there the next morning. Hope she rested well as there are many more boxes of goodies to open and investigate today.  :)

At 17 most already are although some are thankfully on the wane like the unseen ambushing when going for a wee in the middle of the night.  :scared:

By cat standards in my experience at least, it's considerably larger than it needs to be!  Positively palatial!
