Xilinx Schematic Capture Additional building blocks?
« on: October 19, 2022, 05:25:32 pm »
Xilinx schematic capture has some basic 74XX I.C. building blocks (pick-n-place so to speak). Is there a repository or library available for download where someone has expanded and added more basic 74XX or 4XXX parts to 'drop in'? We are working exclusively with the smaller CPLD devices for signal routing, latching, counting, etc. No one in house at this point is VHDL/Verilog literate but have been creating working sub-systems with Schematic Capture. Thanks!! (Due to several problems with platform cables not being recognized and the small scale of the CPLD's we use we are running ISE versions prior to the '14.X' release)

For simple logic like replicating 74/4000 series logic, Verilog is a piece of cake to learn. Really! You should just look at some basic examples of how to create counters, shift registers, combinatorial logic, etc.

I think I picked up the basics in an afternoon, and can now string together much more complicated logic without being restricted to what was available in those logic families.

I have no experience with VHDL, but I'd imagine for simple logic it would also be very easy to learn.

And if ISE is anything like Quartus, then it should be able to show you a "schematic" version of your Verilog/VHDL, so you can still compare it at that level.
