I had a cat who didn't want to use the catflap, he felt threatened with the flap on his head. A rubber band to hold the flap open fixed that. Not a good solution in the winter.

Then I made a motorized flap for him, to look if that would help. Infrared sensors on both sides, AVR processor ,rotary hall encoder chip from AMS and a PID controlled DC motor. Workes like a charm, including for the reluctant cat. Unfortunaly he passed away last year.

I also have trouble with cats who like dining out and I have the best food. So next plan was RFID (chip recognition), timer lock, data logger and a traffic display. This proved difficult, it's radio and its analog. But I was nearing the assembly time. Then my vet implanted my last cat with an 8*1.5 chip instead of 12*2. I couldn't read the chip. The vet is right and I was passed by advancing technology. Not enough range.

Thus time to look at the Sureflap patents. Black analog voodoo with misused MOSFETs. Works. 200 mm range with 12*2 chips, 145 mm for the 8.5 * 1.  Measured mid chip-mid coil. Almost time for new China PCB's. Now that's a blessing for humanity!

Nice. Shame your cat didn't get to appreciate it for long, though :(

Yes, good ideas are always too late. He enjoyed it a couple of years. Was a romantic, peaceloving guy. Enjoyed sunsets.

He was a handsome fellow - condolences on his loss.  You've gotta love orange cats - lots of personality.

One more picture. In 2018 we had a litter of 2 kittens. The mother asked me to support her with the contractions and giving birth. That in itself was a wonderfull experience. The kittens were wonderfull. We kept the son, the daughter went to a very good home. On the photo the son is almost 9 weeks, he is now a wonderfull long legged cat. After the passing of our red cat we took a red kitten and he was adopted with love by these two.

And yes, she is sterilized now.

I hope he grew into those ears!  :)
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

They generally seem to grow into their ears, though the size disparity does make them look funny when they're little.  Seems the ears are the first thing to grow to full size, followed eventually by the rest of them.

Well of course. It is vital that one can hear a packet of roast chicken, roast beef or ham being opened at least 200 yards away from the packet. [Fx: Sound of stampeding cats]

Or hear me coming home from a fishing trip with enough fish for him to go bonkers. Until I give him some to eat. And he's like.. meh.

It's not the food, it's the event.

Emily (rear) and Gracie (front) adopted a year ago this week from my local shelter. 7-year-old sisters.

Very impressive cats if they came with degree certificates.

Or is it an old sociology degree you were going to line the litter box with?

Cryptocurrency has taught me to love math and at the same time be baffled by it.

Cryptocurrency lesson 0: Altcoins and Bitcoin are not the same thing.
