Help identify unknown MCU 44pin
« on: July 22, 2026, 01:41:50 pm »
Hi,

I have an IC with a laser-removed marking and I'm trying to identify the manufacturer by the logo.

What I can read:

Marking (partial, heavily lasered): "8HF5102", "A0", "132" (datecode)
Logo: Triangle shape with a curved element inside (see photo)

Electrical characteristics (measured):

Package: TQFP44, 10x10mm
Pin 16 → GND (only GND pin)
Pin 38 → VCC 3.3V (only VCC pin)
Pin 21 → RESET (connected to button on PCB)
All I/O pins have ~5kΩ pullup to VCC → classic 8051 behavior

6-pin ISP header (P3):

Pin 1 → VCC
Pin 2 → RESET
Pin 6 → GND
Pin 3, 4, 5 → unknown (likely UART ISP)

Photos of logo and PCB attached.

Any help appreciated!

If you can afford to lose this MCU, I suggest you remove the outer black packaging layer until you see the internal crystal, where the exact model number might be printed.

Can you post more of the PCBA/circuitry around it?

It might also say 89F51 and maybe it is 89F51U2 ?
There are a lot of 8051 vendors in Asia and what is visible of the logo is not very clear.

How old is the product and what is your desired next steps?
It is not trivial to get code from a secured 89F51

For fun AI finds this answer from left field…

Mercedes-Benz made the 89F51 with the SL prefix, referring to the R 129 series SL Roadster.

Context would help from the OP, if they said what device it is.

FWIW it looks like the power pins line up with an STC89 44-pin.

The triangle logo and the AU on the last line followed by a number makes me think of a really old Atmel.
Lots of ATMEL stuff had AU on the end.

Maybe they didn't put AT at the start long ago. So AT89S51 might have been 89S51
Also AT89S51 in 44-lead TQFP package has the right pin out
Pin 16 → GND
Pin 38 → VCC
Reset is pin 4 though, not 21. But maybe that isnt a reset button.

Check if pin 16 and 17 are shorted, they should both be GND.

But programming would be done on MCU pins 1,2,3,4  where do they go on the PCB?

This small board is a part of automotive programmer KTAG KTM100, comes attached on top of the main board.

Main chip on the bottom board is LPC2478FBD208 and this small top board is plugged into this 8-pin connector in the front (see red board).
Can't tell it by the traces, but this connector is close to JTAG interface of LPC.
However, JTAG connector probably goes into this huge unpopulated SMD footprint on the left and 8-pin is probably UART + something else (why does it need 8 pins?).
What is this small board doing? Putting main MCU in some kind of debug mode?
Other than 8-pin connector there's only power and a tact switch attached to it.

No traces from 8-pin connector on the bottom side, but I see a couple of vias.
This is likely a 4-layer board, so many things are hidden on inner layers.
I thought that maybe tracing this interface could help to identify MCU on the top board by pinout.

tl;dr
As far as i found out, these ECU programmers  supporting GPT*  Functions ( GPT is new password algo cryptography that is implemented in new Tricore microcontrollers from Infineon.)
They are capable to decrypt passwords and afterwards automatically opens protected sectors of ECU temporarily. So user has an read/write access.

1st gen versions needed an additional adapter for this, the newer having this function buildt in. It's the small green PCB.
The newest gen multiplexers are advertised as "4-LED" model with "red PCB".

the extra pcb is used for resetting the flash counter so you dont have to update the device

Ah, I see.
The KTAG programmer limits the number of ECUs you're allowed to program.
Then you're supposed to buy more programming 'credits'.
But this hack device (piggyback board) can do that for you, and give you more programming credits for free.

And you want to hack the hack device. :-+

6-pin ISP header (P3):

Pin 1 → VCC
Pin 2 → RESET
Pin 6 → GND
Pin 3, 4, 5 → unknown (likely UART ISP)

I would expect those unknown pins go to PSEN, RX, TX

Which MCU pins connect to which P3 header pins?

You can see in the last image, 3,4,5 on P3 are 20,19,18 on mcu
