cheap magnets?
« on: January 19, 2021, 03:27:28 pm »
Howdy!
I'm working on building a small vertical wind turbine. I thought I would be cool to have the rotor suspended by a magnetic halbach array to reduce friction. I was thinking of using washers that have been magnatized for this part, since they are pretty cheap.

My question is what kind of washers (what kind of metal) should I be looking for? I've tried magnetizing a few washers but could not make them permanent magnets.

The electricity producing magnets would of course be made of higher performing magnets...
No solder before coffee! Unless it's 0201...

IMO, no iron washer will become a decent permanent magnet. Neos are so cheap you should just buy a bunch.
