You can export empty database from MyElecParts.

During export you are able to select the Part categories you would like to import later.
You can also select the Columns are relevant for you. For example you can exclude Manufacturer part number, Marking or Attachments columns if they are not in your original file.
The program is able to import date in this exported format. Fill your data into this format.
Click the column headers in excel to check the expected format and allowed values of the column.

Ah okay.

Just to be clear, my goal is to re-inventory all my parts again. Should I make one long Excel sheet for every component but list the component by type and entering data into each column that's applicable?

As an example, if I have resistors and diodes, should I list the type as 'resistor' on row 1 and 'diode' on row 2, and enter the information that's applicable to each component type leaving the other cells empty?

Currently my list (as I've mentioned) has one tab for resistors that includes wattage and maybe a general note such as mounting type (or gold for the gold colored higher wattage resistors). The diode tab doesn't have wattage but may have current.

In all cases, I keep a general memo as a way to remember what I have. Usually the memo may include the project I bought the part(s) for which triggers a memory to visual the part.

If you export an empty database from MyElecParts you will get multiple sheets in one xlsx document. One sheet per part category as each part category has different set of parameters. At export you can select part categories you really want to fill.

In your example you should put all the resistors on Resistor sheet and all diodes on one of the diodes sheets. There are actually 5 different diodes category: Rectifier, Schottky, Switch, TVS and Zener.

you can put your memo into the Note field.

It seems the PostgreeSQL provider does not support creating database from code either:

I currently reviewed again to support different type of database, and I found that PostgreeSQL is really not support creating of the database but do support migrations, so it is possible to add as a alternative database for linux users. Creating empty database would be an easy manual step after installation of Postgree. And the tables could be created with the migration step automatically.

MyElecParts v1.70 is now available.
https://myelecparts.hu/

Linux users will be pleased to know that the PostgreSQL database engine is now supported by the program. Alternatively, if you only want to use the program for searching, database-less operation is now officially supported. This can be selected in the config file. See also the installation guide page on the website.

A minimum quantity can be set for each item; if stock falls below this level, the program will alert you, allowing you to see what needs to be restocked...

Editing inventory quantities is now easier, and the quantity field can now be adjusted using the + and - buttons with either the mouse or the keyboard. You can also increase or decrease the quantity by ten using the Page Down and Page Up keys.

A frustrating bug related to scrolling through combo boxes has finally been fixed.

Full list:
• Database: Add support for PostgreSQL database
• Database: Add support for working without database (Search only)
• Parts: Add Min. stock level for part parameters
• Parts and Storage locations: Show low stock warning
• Parts and Storage locations: Improve stock level edit
• Parts and Storage locations: Extended filtering
• Meta search: Update Datasheet4U source
• Bugfix: Fix combobox scrolling issue
• Small buxfixes

MyElecParts v1.80 is now available.
https://myelecparts.hu/

More and more websites are introducing human presence verification upon opening, and from now on, alltransistors is no exception. In order to continue using the search function on this site, you’ll need to install another program. This is Microsoft WebView2. It comes pre-installed on Windows 11, so no action is required there; for earlier versions, you’ll need to install it following the installation guide if it isn’t already installed. The program will alert you if it’s missing. On Linux under wine, you'll need to do also a little tweaking.

The program now also includes the ability to show or hide columns and reorder them in the main tables. In addition to the default columns, there are a few others you can display.

Full list:
• New optional dependency for WebView2, see installation page
• Add column selection and reorder
• Parts and Storage locations: Direct update of stock level
• Meta and Marking code search: Support human verification for Alltransistor
• Meta search: Update Datasheet4U and QDatasheet sources
• Bugfix: Fix open startup page bug

Thank you for all the work you put into this. It’s a fantastic app, I’m trying it right now.
The meta search is so handy and saves so much time! I haven’t really seen this in other applications.

This tool looks very promising! Thanks for putting in all the work. I haven't had the chance to test it yet but will do soon :)
One thing that comes to mind:
Where I work we order our stuff using farnell, downloading the .csv from the shopping cart, yadayada. But we always have that .csv of the shopping cart that contains the parts and quantaties. It would be awesome if I, or a colleague, could just throw that .csv in there and see the numbers update.

Can multiple users use the same database? At our university, we have teaching labs, research labs, offices, ... all with their own stocks. Would be great to have a unified database as a lot of cross-contamination happens already.

Thank you, it's a very good app! Is it possible to add a feature like taking a photo of the storage location? Is it possible to enter formulas for automatic calculations? For example, if I enter 1000 Ohms, the other column would show 1000/1000 = 1 kOhm.

Hello, thank you.
I will put your requests to the wishlist, but I will not promise anything.

IMO low prio to have image for storage locations, but it is possible to add one.
Taking picture is another story, Do you mean taking it with a webcam?

Where do you like to have formulas?
Would it be a new part parameter which can show the same value with different dimension/prefix?

Hello! What I meant was being able to attach a small photo to a storage location – for example, a photo of a specific box – to help with quick visual recognition. But it’s not that important; it’s just something to consider if possible.
By ‘formulas’, I mean the option to enter a resistor value, for example 0.005 Ohms, whilst in another category of parameters, the value was automatically set to 5 mOhms. But that’s not so important right now.
I think it's more important to add the ability to save interface settings (such as column width, window size, cursor position, etc.) after closing tabs or the program. It would also be helpful to save sorting settings when switching between tabs.
Here's another question: What's the correct way to update the program if a component database has already been created and new enclosures and manufacturers have been added, so that nothing is lost? Which files should I copy, and which ones should I skip? Can I edit the files in the “Customization” folder to translate the interface into another language? And how do I update them in that case?
Thank you so much for the wonderful program!

I put your wishes to the wish list.

Update
=====
Before you perform an update make a backup first. Compress all files into a zip archive. If something goes wrong you can revert to it.

For the installation simple copy all files from the new release zip into the program directory. Your stored parts, attachments, added packages, manufacturers will be safe. The release zip does not contain the database files, so your database will not be overwritten.

If you made changes on MyElecParts.exe.config file (e.g to configure different database or datadir) you have to apply your previous changes on the new config file.
If you prefer you can use Totalcmd Commands / Syncronize dirs function to compare what was changed.

Be aware that the program might update database layout at first start of the new version. After that you will not be able your use the database with older version of the app.

Translation
=======
n Languages.xml you can add a new language like this with the 2 letter ISO639 language code (uk). Use the native language name here

    <system:String x:Key="Language_uk">Українська</system:String>

And then you can copy all *_en.xaml file to your language as *_uk.xaml as a base for your translation.

Then you can edit your new language files, but keep the order and other formats, only edit the text itself.
please be careful with texts with parameters or newlines. They shall remain in the same format.
For example {1} is a parameter, and its content will be filled by the app.
xml:space="preserve" tells that the newlines are also preserved and the text will be presented according to the new lines in xaml file.

At update new xaml files will not be changed but Languages.xml will be. You can skip this at update.
If you are going to make a complete translation you can share it with me and I can put it into the app.

Hi, I appreciate your effort for creating this program.  I thought it worked on Windows 7 but I cannot pass the hurdle of the LocalDB requirement.  Microsoft says it is not supported on Win7.  I'm wondering if anyone knows what database should and could be installed on Windows 7 for this app to work.  I think I can get some old release of SQL Server installed but I do not know if that would work(?)

Thank you for any input you may have on this issue.

You can use LocalDB 2016 SP1 on Windows 7:
https://download.microsoft.com/download/9/0/7/907AD35F-9F9C-43A5-9789-52470555DB90/ENU/SqlLocalDB.msi

LocalDB uses database files under directory Data/Database. This is the default and recommended setup.
You can also use SQL Server if you configure it in MyElecParts.exe.config with DatabaseXXX parameters.

Yay! It's working now...
For some reason I couldn't access my MSSQLLocalDB instance (may be it was a ownership/privilege issue), so I had to delete it with:
sqllocaldb stop MSSQLLocalDB
sqllocaldb delete MSSQLLocalDB
May be that wasn't the issue(?), and I was just being too impatient while the app was throbbing during start up, and I didn't wait long enough for the database to be created and started... Anyway, the good news is that MyElecParts is finally installed on Windows 7 and it's working as expected!!
