Type C HDMI Pinout
« on: February 04, 2014, 09:34:37 pm »
I am hitting my head upside a wall. I am working on making an adapter board for HDMI out on a camera and am using a Type C Mini HDMI connector. The problem is I am finding conflicting info on the internet on the pinouts. Some sites say +,shld,- and others say shld,+,- ordering.

http://www.hardwarebook.info/HDMI#Type_C_Pinout

http://pinoutsguide.com/PortableDevices/mini_hdmi_pinout.shtml

Which is it? Anyone?

Thats because you havent paid them $10,000 yet.

Given the linear arrangement of the pins, and the fact that its a high speed serial signal, I'd suspect the one with the + and - signals next to each other and shields in between pairs would be correct.  The other way would be hell for impedance and cross talk.

The +, g, - arrangement makes sense on the larger HDMI cables as the pinout staggers as it runs down the connector so you have a differential pair next to a ground, and with a ground across from it, and the next differential pair is staggered diagonally from it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

I found some HDMI test fixtures looking for details on where the differential traces come from,  but none of them showed a type C on a bare PCB.
