Good day all.
I am looking at the feasibility of trying to repair a Anritsu 37325A 40MHz-13.5GHz Vector Network Analyzer.
Currently I have found three faults with the unit.
(1) Damaged screen.
(2) Failing hard drive.
(3) Software or hardware issue setting internal time and date.
Issue 1The first issue is that the LCD screen is damaged but is still partly usable, and the VNA does have a VGA monitor port on the back.
The LCD Screen is a Sharp LQ9D340 and it seems that they are still available just a little pricy for what they are, so this should be an easy fix.
Issue 2The build in hard drive seems to be failing or has somewhat failed.
During a normal power on cycle you get the following

Attempting to download from floppy disk...
Floppy disk is NOT available.
Attempting to download from hard drive...
SCSI hard disk is NOT available.
Please corrent the problem and restart the system...
The hard drive is a old Quantum Go Drive GU08S011, looking online this seems to be an 50pin SCSI, 3600rpm with a whooping capacity of 85MB.
Risky move on my part was to remove the front cover of the hard drive, and then I could see that the drive would spin up but no movement from the heads.
However once the spindle is up to speed if I touch the arm voicecoil poking out from the magnets furthest away from the spindle the drive would jump into life and the system would start loading data from the drive.
of course I don't want to run the drive without it's cover for many reasons.
So I have to come up with a way to make a backup or image of the current drive, and then look at options for replacement.
Issue 3When I am able to get the system to load from hard drive I get as far as the following.
Downloading the software from disk.
Please wait...
Initializing software...
Starting tasks...Unable to set the date and time.
I have tried removing all the cards from the system, cleaning all the backplate connectors, and reseating the cards, still the same outcome.
Looking at the card that I think is the main processor board it does have a M48T08-150PC1 Timekeeper Ram Lithium Battery.
Is this likely to be the fault, and is there any way of testing?
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
