LOL @Czech post. Yea, I had my experiences too...
My DSO-X2014A has just arrived, delivered from RLX Components SK, via parcel service, in original Agilent box.
I haven't unpacked it yet so I guess tonight is going to be very hot hardware porn experience.
So, quick check of my scope´s serial number revealed that the start of warranty period was Dec 26th 2012 and the warranty period is only 3 years.
So I've registered my scope on Agilent.com and sent them request to update my warranty status.
sent them request to update my warranty status.
Well, never send an email to Htest in Prague. Send it to Austria or Germany instead.
I used the warranty update service form on the Agilent.com page under "My products".
I've got an email confirmation of my inquiry already. So... let's wait.
Why? Oh, because I asked them to set my warranty to five years. They promised it in their datasheet and so. See pictures in my previous posts.
Now I have the five year warranty.
The lady from Rothsware told me that she knew nothing about the 5 year warranty and Farnell gives you only 1 year warranty.
The true problem is that when you buy something from Farnell, you don't know, how old it is... This is the back sticker of my scope. The 1225 means that it was manufactured in 25th week of 2012.
And yes, if i bought Rigol DS2000 or GDS-2000A today, I might get a unit from the beginning of production... That would not be good.
If you buy the agilent equipment from Farnell you will have the official Agilent warranty, not only 1 year.
For my DSOX I have 3 years warranty.

Yes i saw your pictures. I got my scope from rs in 2012. I also registered it with agilent, but did not get any messages / emails / notifications or anything which would let me believe that the default 3 years warranty can be extended to 5 years. I am on the other hand NOT very satisfied with agilent, as the first scope had to be replaced (due to a bad display backlight inverter). The replacement scope has a bad pixel on it (which they do not cover under warranty), then days after my purchase they announced the free dvm ans wavegen option, and now this "mysterious" 5 years warranty... I am a bit on the confused side with agilent.
I'm pretty happy with Wavegen and DVM option included in basic price. Thanks to competition on the market.
Also, 5-year warranty is now standard on purchases after 1/1/2013, as it is clearly advertised in the X2000 series datasheet.
Ok, i'd better not check actual offers for these scope (after purchasing one with less features for more money).
I wish I checked their web before my order too...
There´s a new promo where you can combine WAVEGEN, DVM and EDUCATIONAL KIT together for free with any X2000/3000/4000 series scope.
What a bummer
Prices almost always go down and deals get better as the equipment gets older. Should Agilent keep charging more to keep past buyers happy? You bought the scope for a price which you considered reasonable. Did the deal get worse by an even better offer coming along?
The way to get a good deal is to postpone your acquisition for as long as possible. You might get an even better deal after the successor has been announced. The downside is of course that you're without said scope while you're waiting.
you're certainly right. What makes me mad is that the official Agilent retailer did not offer me this promo automaticaly.
He woudln't loose any profit margin because it's Agilent who is offering it.
The replacement scope has a bad pixel on it (which they do not cover under warranty)
That's not much important failure.

True. But i am wondering if you'd be satisfied if your brand new scope had a bad pixel...
I might be a little irritated if it were noticeable, but it's rather common.

Well, I asked this reseller if he could give me free DVM and Wavegen and he said
No. http://www.elexbrno.cz/detail.php?proId=525&secId=182But it was not an authorized dealer... So I had to buy from Farnell.

None of my LCD stuffs around here has a bad pixel (including several PC monitors, TVs, notebooks, test equipments, ...).
The irony in this is that the most expensive piece of all this is my agilent mso with the bad pixel. And thats not a blank type, it is an "always on" one.
I have a single hot pixel on my MSOX-3054A. It's mildly irritating, but since the scope was otherwise like new and was about half the regular price, I'm not really inclined to send it back.
In any case, it's right near the edge of the screen and hardly noticeable - even less so because I normally use a separate, larger LCD monitor plugged into the LAN/VGA module.

That´s odd. Both resellers in Slovakia advertise the current Wavegen and DVM promos....
Anyway... After I registered my scope on Agilent.com and asked them to update my warranty status to 5 years, they contacted me (Agilent SUISS support center) and asked for a proof of purchase....). I sent them scan of the invoice and they replied immediately that my warranty was updated to 5 years. THANX AGILENT

Maybe this is only in certain countries/regions? Right now the only promo I see is the buy one application get one for Infinivision X-series scopes (good through Sept 30, 2013).
Edit June 6th: My display name has recently changed from "jneumann" to "Yaksaredabomb"
Yes, both promos are limited to certain countries and EDU promo is only for schools
Availability: Only in countries located in Europe, the Middle East and Africa
