Recommendation Hand multimeter without rotary switch
« on: December 09, 2015, 03:04:47 pm »
Seeking a hand-multimeter, which is only to operate with tip-keys like a table multimeter, without the rotary switch, which is usually to be found. And there should be no ScopeMeter. Who can recommend something?

Because it is better to use. For me the main reason to use a table multimeter, once is a better display, to others that they are better serving also. If I want to switch with my Fluke 187 VDC to ADC, I must not only change the strings, but cranks at this turning wheel. (The Fluke 187 is OK, no Problem). I just wanted to know if there is such a thing?

There are very few options:
http://www.chauvin-arnoux.com/en/produit/mtx-3283b.html

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/EONE-VC105-multimeter-completely-waterproof-push-button/1196741782.html

as a couple examples, from very high price to relatively low priced probably junk.

Any reason you don't want a bench meter?

Thanks!

Both, the old Fluke and the modern Metrix were familiar to me. The one is too old, the other too expensive. I had not much else found of good quality.

I had thought to replace my old HP Bench multimeter and to get me a second hand multimeter. I sometimes find it very convenient to set the unit as it fits best. With a bench meter on the shelf that's not always so simple and on the table they are too large. I do not have much space, thats the problem.

Keithley made some pretty small bench meters, 191 and 197 and maybe some others. There are some other smaller vintage bench meters by other manufacturers.

It should have at least the class of Fluke 187.
I see, that it will be expensive to find something.  I am surprised, that hardly any manufacturer which produces like that. Is that so little demand? Is probably due to that the measured values change is not so easy to implement in a small package. In tough conditions, a rotary knob is already useful, but otherwise more of a hindrance. Then I'll stay at a bench-Multimeter, this is cheaper.

Can't really beat a piece of injection molded plastic and some gold plated spring contacts in terms of price, size and reliability in a hand held multimeter. On the other hand bench meters are expected to be fully programmable, so a solution like a rotary knob simply doesn't work for them.
