RuiDeng Riden RD6006 DC power supply

I have been reading the manual for the aftermarket firmware but it does not really point out the differences between the shippped firmware. Can someone point out like a top 10 best improvments over standard firmware please? I know I would appreciate it a lot, which means other noobs like myself would probably appreciate it. Giving us a good push to get it working and update

I just got a RD6018 for 58 dollars shipped, a month ago which seems like quite a good deal. I even had already purchased the lesser RD6006 but it cost 80$ and returned it when i noticed this random price drop only on that single model from banggood which i never use if I can help it. I also bought a very cheap Cisco power supply that is -54 volts and from my understanding I would still plug that into the negitive, it would just be cycling electrons in reverse from a positive rail but still is power and works the same. I have to say as a noobie ground and potential is kinda hard to grasp at first but then you just realize its a perspective only, the flow of energy is the same. I digress, have a great friday with a holiday all!

you ask for the top 10. Since I don't know what features you like, and I don't know how far Riden has updated their firmware to be more like Unisoft's, the main recommendation is:

Try it out. You can go back to the original firmware if you want.

The main improvement subjects are:

* battery charging functionality many more possibilities, with a full extra menu
* better personnalisation of the display
* many more other settings available
* better ergonomics
* a calibration menu

Hey guys, quick question...

I incorrectly used the red terminal for battery testing and I read that is wrong and can damage the power supply.  I did see some odd behavior after I did but it seems fine now.

Did I damage my unit or how can I tell?

Does anyone have the schematics for the RD6006? I accidentally connected a LiPo to black and red, instead of black and green posts. Now the output it always on (no matter the state of the ON/OFF button) and at full (maxed out, based on what the power supply feeds it). Any idea what could be damaged? A MOSFET that's shorted?

If you find the offical Riden youtube page they acutally have some great repair videos that cover the most common failure points that are build into the converter. Its usually as mentioned the fuse or the little protection board. If the unit is still working I would imagine you have a minor issue.

Binary Match: You must flash the exact version (RD60181 for the RD6018) or it will glitch.

Both my RD6018 and RD6006P were showing date-times starting in 2020, resetting each time they were powered cycled. So I checked the voltage on the CR1220 button batteries and they were both around 0.3 Volts (should be > 3 Volts). The battery is somewhat awkwardly placed on the lower PCB. Couldn't find a CR1220 replacement but CR1225 was available and it fits and works. My guess is lots of RD60xx power supplies bought early in their production cycles would also have the same flat button battery issue. Other than that, both power supplies are still working fine.

While I'm here, I'd like to send out a high voltage pulse, say 50 Volts to test the effectiveness of the protection diodes on a PD Sink.. The RD60xx supplies have a timer setup (well hidden following SHIFT-UP_ARROW) but its finest resolution is 1 second. Could it be less, say 10 or 100 milliSeconds? Does the ON transition overhead (e.g. its dV/dT) make such finer resolutions pointless? Alternatively could an accurate pulse from a function generator be sent to an existing header on the RD6006P PCB to obtain a similar result (i.e. pulsing the power supply output)?

Can I flash RD6012 firmware to a RD6012H? I dont see any RD6012H discussion on this forum. Someone posted link to video, but I am willing to test out a "-force" if I don't brick mu unit and can reflash back to OEM v1.40

It is depends from what "Product Model" it have...
if you'll see there 60121 then you can flash it,
if there will be something else, then no need even try, it will not work.

No, it is NOT the same hardware as the RD6012. The RD6012 has model 60121. The RD6012H has model 60126.
Applying firmware for RD6012 on a RD6012H will either not work or will brick it.

Well, since it is me who is doing most maintenance on that document, I can do it. But it'll be a mention that the 6012H, like many others: 6030, 6024,.. is not supported by the custom firmware.
