I wanted to dismiss this, but ... it could actually be useful when you're elbows deep in something and can't easily keep the multimeter in line of sight. The demo video shows that the voice readout is decently prompt too.

I was thinking it might be useful for blind people but it's manual ranging with a zillion positions on the range selector. Blind people would need one of those "auto" meters.

Also: I wonder how loud it is in real life.

Someone should build his own voice multimeter -

1 - When you power it up - "Hello there sexy".

2 - When you insert the probes on AC while on the resistance scale - THIS GUY IS TRYING TO KILL ME!


3 - When the DC is unstable - "That's a bit of how-you-doin!"

4 - When OL on any range - "Don't like that at all!".

5 - On continuity scale - "Itchy and scratchy!"

6 - (...)

Its a Category II or III 600V or something or other (couldn't make it out from the lowres images).

Somehow electrician seems to be to be somewhat of a dangerous job for the blind. Like roofing, or driving school busses.

(the risk isn't so much the blabbering meter - but the blind poking (sorry...  ) of probes in a panel...)

When switched to current mode, if its capable of saying ... "Hoiii !!! Do not blow the fuse dummy !!!" ... I will buy that instantly.

You'd be surprised at what blind people get up to.

When switched to current mode, if its capable of saying ... "Hoiii !!! Do not blow the fuse dummy !!!" ... I will buy that instantly.

I've been wanting a "talking" multimeter for quite some time.  Say I have my probe on PCB traces or component leads...  I don't want to slip and cause a short, so I don't want to look away.  If DVM spoke the value, it would be great.  I'm not sure if I trust Aliexpress dealers though.

Many years ago, I had just had my first gloucoma eye exam.

Not being able to see very much at all, I walked back to work, and was happily taking phone calls from dealers for spare parts and advice, when the sales director rung. He was desperate for a batch of BBIIGG power amplifier repairs to go out that night.

I explained to him about my eye test, and that I could not see very much. Well, just work by touch he said. It took some time to convince him that probing around with your fingers in a unit that can provide around 400V is not a particularly safe method of working.

I don't have much trouble with customer service aspect of Amazon.  Product quality is different matter altogether.  When ever I'm dissatisfied and can't resolve it in automated way, I get in touch with its customer support.  They almost always bend over backwards to help me out.  This has been true long after 30 day period is over.

So does Aliexpress. Every dud I've had was replaced without question, I've never even had to send anything back to get a full refund or replacement.

Plus: You're risking what, all of $27?   That's worth it just to get a good anecdote on EEVBLOG.

Some time ago while working on a switching PS with both hands on probes I leaned over too far to get a better look at the reading and caused a short which destroyed the PCB in that area.   A $100.00 disaster that might have been avoided by a talking meter..In about the same time frame I bought one the girls a talking clock and she lost it in the yard while playing.. We look and looked and gave up but about a year later when I was trimming a bush I heard what time it was coming from the bush and there was the clock!

In this case I would prefer the meters from fluke, with their portable displays...
...or the ones (e.g. from peaktech) with bluetooth connection, showing the values on your smartphone.
