The same. But make sure you're well-toked the first time you watch MoonTrap; it's just not the same otherwise. ;)

With the Type 561B restoration on hold awaiting the Type 3B3 Time Base plug-in I decided to take a look at the Type 106. Yesterday's pictures of the Hi Amplitude Square were ugly and the +/- Fast Rise weren't much better. I did find the issue. But first, look at this picture. Yes, that is a 680 ohm resistor and a disc cap hanging in the breeze. I thought that was my issue but no, they are in the Trigger Output circuit. Seems at one time there was some Gorilla activity. Resoldered them.

The issue turned out to be the bias control in the oscillator circuit being out of adjustment. Once adjusted properly things started to fall into place. Still not perfect but close.

This is what the Hi Amplitude Square now looks like. Much better.

And this is the + Fast Rise. Again much better and it's rise time is also improved but still not 1ns or less.

The - Fast Rise now has a decent output but the square wave is fubar'ed. More work needed here.

I think at this point the next step will be to re-cap the PSU and make sure everything is top notch in that area before I wind up chasing potential ghosts.

Rabbithole, here I come.

In order to fix the effing RockPi board I have to solder in a SOP 8 EEPROM, then set up a PXEboot environment, then bring the board into masking mode, hook it up to an Ubuntu server (not yet installed), OTA flash the SPI rom with an SPI bootloader, and flash that critter with M.2 boot firmware. Then PXEboot into the installer and install the OS on an M.2 disk I have floating around.

And all of this ONLY because the bloody uSD card slot is not available.
Bloody hell.

Now THAT's what I'm talking about! A (hu)man made it; a (hu)man can fix it.  :-+ (Even if there's voodoo involved ;))

?? Doesn't work for children - or is that what the voodoo is for?

Here's an interesting tidbit. The Type 106 uses four 7189A vacuum tubes. I was curious to see what they went for on Ebay and got a shock.  :scared: Big bucks. The reason? They can be used to sub out EL84's and 6BQ5's which are one of the audiophools favorite output tube for mid range power. And the 7189A can be used in circuits upwards of 400V while the EL84/6BQ5 is only good up to 300V.

I hope these never crap out.  :-DD

On the bright side, the toobz used in test equipment will usually last a lot longer than those used on shadetree amplifier designs! On the other hand though, is there anything audiophools won't get their dirty fingers into??  :palm:

I was around when it came out if I recall in '67.

I turned 18 in '71 and yes, I had to go to the Selective Service Office and register for the draft. But they had gone to a lottery system by that time. For that particular year when 18 yr old's were born (1953) all the dates of the year were tossed into big jar. Each day was then picked out and put on a big board labelled 1 thru 365. If your b day fell approx 150 or less pack your bags because Uncle Sam want's you. 150 and above you were pretty safe and not get drafted. What was my number? 330 (June 27) out of 365. Whew.  :phew: :-DD
