And someone has finally decided they wanted those cut off Tek probes.  :palm:

David

I stopped watching those probes months ago, if I'd known the BIN price had dropped that low I might have gone and done something rather rash!   :-DD

Boring Mundane Everyday Print #222: Latch Thingum for TV Wall Mount

Bought the cheapest TV wall mount I could find on Amazon; didn't realize the "safety lock" was a stoopit screw you're supposed to screw up under the bottom rail. :palm: Decided to make this to fit; bonus, it will make these mounts fit on the rail already mounted on the wall.

Works exactly as expected; not bad for completely designed in my head. Added a little pull loop of mechanic's wire and ready to go. Parts for the 2nd TV mount printing now. :-+

As usual; for those who care, full details and 3DP nerd-stats can be seen on the 3DP thread:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/3d-printing/3d-printer-yet/msg3737929/#msg3737929

Yes, the wall is olive drab. Honestly, I don't mind it.  :-//

ROCK THE WORKBENCH!

It took some equipment rearrangement and some moving the power distribution around to fit it in but I’ve corrected this long standing problem of music being at the wrong end of the workbench:

The two 3310A’s used to be stacked where that speaker is so I kicked them on top of the 3325A to make space there and the counter and spectrum analyzer got shifted a bit left along with a Tektronix TDS 640 that’s out of frame to the left to make space at the other end.

I’m still experimenting with speaker orientation but I’m leaning towards upside down sounding a little bit better with the tweeters at pretty much exactly ear height instead of a bit above.

I've got some Simple Minds playing while dinner cooks.  Next up:

This 8662A is not a happy machine.  I checked it out on a spectrum analyzer a while ago and it’s on frequency and the output is there but low.  It took that preamp to get enough amplitude to get it to deflect a scope in a meaningful way.

The cover is going to have to come off to see if it’s the attenuator or a gain stage that’s gone bad.

Apologies for this non-TE post, but this made me chuckle when I found it in the spam folder of an email account I don't use very often:

Wire Transfers, Federal Ministry of Finance Republic of Benin.
Attention:

This is Mr. Michael Toure, The Secretary of the Treasury for
International Affairs is a senior position within the Republic of
Benin Department of the Treasury Federal Ministry of Finance on
international wire transfers. You are to reply through this my
official email address.(info.**redacted**@gmail.com) because
this is to inform you that your fund was brought to my desk because
the director & management of the WESTERN UNION & MONEYGRAM transfer
have declared to divert your fund to the government treasury account
just because you can not pay the wire transfer fee. In reasoning
wisely to this complaint I told them to wait until I heard from you
today so that I will know the reason why you decided to reject such an
amount of money USD$15.4Million which is your rightful & legal overdue
inheritance payment just because of the transfer fee.

The reason why i sent this email to you is because its your sweat and
for this reason you still have this last chance to claim your fund if
you can send USD$59.00 today because i have already arranged your
wires ready for its daily wires to you but failing to do this, i will
allow them to have power over your fund and am very sorry if you
failed as this is the last chance.

Therefore, send the USD$59.00 immediately you receive this email today
and email your full name and address to me if you want your
USD$15.4Million be sent to you by western union OR Moneygram transfer
but the maximum amount officially allow for it per day wire to you is
USD$8,500.00 per day until you receive your complete USD$15.4Million
from here . The second option is for you to send me the full details
of your bank account if you want your fund to be fully transferred by
direct bank to bank wire transfer to your account at once. After you
have sent the $59.00 and email me the mtcn numbers, you are to
indicate your wish to receive your funds as I have stated above and
the funds will be released to you without any hitch.

Here is the western union or WorldRemit information in the name of my
accountant to avoid delay in receiving your fund and remember that I
have done my best for you and I will make sure that your wire will
begin to be released to you from the moment you send this $59.00 .

Send the $59.00 now and send me email with the western union mtcn or
WorldRemit money transfer online reference numbers when you send the
money , you can as well call me or Whatsapp me on this number
+229-**redacted** when you have sent the money now ok .

Receivers Name:......RENE TAKA
Pay-Out Country:... Benin
Pay-Out City : Port-Novo
Amount to send: ...$59.00

SEND MTCN NUMBER....

Send it and email the MTCN control number, amount sent, name and
address of sender to me for easy collection and once again remember to
reply through this my official email address
        info.**redacted**@gmail.com
TAKE NOTE: REPLY ONLY THROUGH THIS EMAIL: info.**redacted**@gmail.com

Thanks.

Of particular amusement was the offer to send the money in daily instalments, which by my reckoning would take on the order of 6 years!

Anyway, can anyone lend me $59..?   :-DD

Why don't you reply to them and ask why they're willing to accept only one $59 payment for the transfer, but they're willing to then send you one transfer per day for the next five years (over 1,800 transfers) until the $8,500 per day matches the $15,400,000? They'd incur over $100,000 in transfer fees if indeed they needed to pay $59 per wire transfer. I wonder if they have a canned answer for that.

And here's me, with nothing more exciting to mend than the microwave oven. The little plastic peg that holds the spring that retains the door catch that engages the safety microswitch is broken. After a session of disassembly-foo, some plastic glue, Araldite and a sawn-off nail as reinforcement, we may have a fix. Got to wait for the glues to dry first

All back together again now and working  :) I hope I haven't damaged the door RF seal...  :( My spectrum analyser only covers up to 1.6 GHz, though. What to do?

Get a chocolate bar, put it in your pocket and stand in front of it while its running  :-DD
On a more serious note, the front door seal is not conduction-based as that was deemed unsafe in a (greasy) kitchen environment
I've heard it's more like a cavity around the door where the signal gets reflected and cancels itself out (I think in an early Shariar video?)
So as long as the door sits against the chassis all the way around you schould be safe  :-//

Ohhhh, yummmmm... Do love me those SX-3x00 series receivers. My first "real stereo", as in actually bought from a stereo shop, was a SX-3600 with a pair of CS-something something (Does a quick Gurrgle... 8" woofer, that wa-a-a-avy lattice grille, so probably CS-33s or somesuch) speakers from the as-is stack at John Mangan's Audio Junction (jeebus... what poor, neglected dusty old brain cell still has that written on it, just waiting for the right endorphins to light it up...? :o) for $125, with one dead tweet and blubs burned out in the front panel... I would have been 17-18 I guess?

One thing Pioneer didn't advertise was that these receivers were 4-Ω stable at still less than .1% THD, so would easily drive a passive sub with close to double the rated 30W RMS all day long.  >:D

I later paired it with some KLF-20s and was simply blown away by what it could do with some decently efficient speakers; I eventually even put away the sub as it just made the bass muddy...

*sigh*
