Variable Current source 50Hz, AC ,0 - 40A
« on: August 19, 2021, 11:03:22 am »
Hi,
We need a Variable Current source 50Hz, AC ,0 - 40A.
Also, need it to be isolated as it will be injecting current into a small PCB trace which is carrying UK mains live.

Ive searched the web but cant find anything at all at any price.
Please tell if you know of anything?

I assume the burden voltage for your device is well under 10V.   This was the first hit from Google:

If you are under 2V, maybe the AL-100-CR-H-S.  They don't show the option for 50Hz but they do offer it.  I guess you just need to contact them.

A secondary current injection test set will do what you require, but they aren't cheap.

The SMRT1 from Megger will inject 30A continuous or up to 60A short duration. Hope you are sitting down when you read this as it will set you back in the region of £8k.

There are manually operated test sets available that are cheaper, but they are still in to 4 figures.

Also Omicron CMC353 et Al. There is a Chinese one called kingsine that is cheaper, but usable

What's your accuracy and stability requirement?

A variac plus a low voltage / high ampere secondary mains transformer may do the job.

Maybe something like I've used to adjust a power meter:
