By the way, you can significantly increase the load capacitance value if (R2437) is chosen larger than 470 nF. I only picked 470 nF because they are fairly easy to get. With a voltage of almost zero volts (!) across (R2437), the voltage derating of Class 2 MLCCs hardly matters. Values of e.g. 4.7 µF in 0603 size should, therefore, be feasible for (R2437).
Have to try that one.
Currently buffer removed, but I don't want to throw the SGMOP17 away, so back in it will go again with 4u7.

So, now it happened, and I also ordered myself such a bargain from Völkner before they completely run out.

Which of the two are you buying, gentlemen?
The two-channel or the four-channel one?
And why?

In the four-channel version, besides having four actual channels, there are two ADCs that allow for 2 channels at 1.25 GSa/s or 4 channels at 625 MSa/s.
In the two-channel version, there is only one ADC.

Thank you, I hadn't realized that.

How about these here as a replacement for the 100 nF 0603 decoupling capacitors on the 2.5 V rail.
https://www.reichelt.de/de/de/shop/produkt/mlcc_0603_47uf_6_3_v_x5r_-20_-410106

With 6.3 V voltage rating (the good old heater voltage :D), the voltage derating is still acceptably small.

Thank you. In terms of size, they seem to be 0402, right?

I'd rather install two of these.

It can get pretty hot in there.

Why do you think that one is better? Is it because of the dielectric? Do you want to mount them on top of each other? I was thinking of C995 when replacing it.
--> Ah ok it is because of the temperature.

Na, its still 0603. So is 4,7µF ok or shall I go even higher?

No, the 4.7 µF referred to the phase compensation capacitor of the revised buffer amplifier (the capacitor is mounted instead of R2437). If this is fitted with, say, 4.7 µF (or even larger), then the output amplifier's load capacitors can easily be bigger than 220 µF without causing instability.
However, much larger load capacitors than 220 µF can't be fitted due to space constraints, so (R2437) with C = 4.7 µF is actually a pretty good choice.
If the decoupling capacitors are 0603 size, I’d push the capacitance up to the technology limit, which would be about 22 µF/6.3 V with sufficient temperature rating. Olex just posted an example.

I think we should draw a clear line; otherwise, it will get too confusing when it comes to modification options.
I like the idea of increasing the 470 nF to 4.7 microfarads so that we’re on the safe side when it comes to potential load capacitance.
This additional capacitor should be placed near the buffer output (and not in smaller capacities throughout the front end)—are we on the same page here?  ;)

Edit:
Getting a new addition....

So personally, I would make all the capacitors on the 2.5 V reference voltage rail as big as possible – the goal is to get the lowest impedance.
That means C2329 (0805) from 10 µF MLCC --> 220 µF (polymer/tantalum).
C995 (0603) from 100 nF MLCC --> 22 µF/6.3 V MLCC X6S.
I would also increase the local decoupling capacitors on the EXOR single gates, unless Owon has already installed bigger capacitors there. It definitely can't hurt.

I'd rather not do that—then there would be two different places to modify.
We can start by seeing if the changed capacitor values on the reference buffer are sufficient to reduce the 7.63 kHz to an “imperceptible” level.
Edit:

This would be the preliminary circuit diagram for electrical testing.

I seem to have misplaced the buffer op-amp I desoldered.  :(
I think this one will work as a replacement: MCP6V31T-E/OT.
It's what I have on hand.
The frequency isn't quite the same, but it shouldn't really matter there.
What do you think?

Guess I am finished.

I changed:
the firmware to 1.8.2, the fan to noctua, calib generator-mod, SL75-mod with 4,7µF, added 10µF to each EXOR and added one 10µF to the C2329.

Did I missed anything?

- picture from 500uV/div 100us/div
- watch for height, not to touch heat sink

The positions for the xor additional caps are the ones you showed in the pictures above ? Two on front, two on back ?

Nice clean soldering  :-+

Btw. the Cap that is soldered in is about 72µF.

C2329 is a 10µF one, measured in the disassembled state.

The actual SL75 mod suppresses the 39 kHz interference, which is visible at 200 mV/div or 10 V/div (1:1).
The additional capacitors are intended to suppress the interference at 7.63 kHz.
That's still missing from the pictures you posted.

I don't see a problem with that at first glance; the circuit where it has to operate isn't that complex.
PSRR and CMMR are “worse,” but that shouldn't matter.
Give it a try...

the 10µF was the highest value I had laying around for now. If necessary, I can order a bigger cap later.

Seems the ripple is gone. Maby better add the FFT as well.
So 220uF maby overkill and additional 5x10uF distributed works similar.

I think I leave it as is, don't want to do the "Martin" at the end and rip some cable  ;D

I was referring to a missing screenshot, which you’ve since provided.
Since there are now two variations in circulation—either a “larger” capacitor directly at the buffer’s output or smaller capacitors per channel acting as buffers for the EXOR gate—I will test and document both options using FFT measurements.
For simplicity's sake, a large capacitor would be preferable, but the version with locally mounted capacitors also has its advantages.
I'll be able to test the latter this weekend, since I don't have a “large” single capacitor here right now—except for a standard leaded electrolytic capacitor.
There are two ways to detect the presence of the 7.63 kHz interference: either using FFT, in which case you will definitely be able to detect it.
Or, as shown, a simple and practical method is to reduce the vertical gain and observe the trace displayed on the screen.
You can't expect a flat line even with maximum suppression of the 7.63 kHz; the sensitivity at 1 mV/div is simply too high for that (500 µV/div is no longer a reliable indicator in this case).
But then there's “natural noise.”
No matter which version is ultimately chosen, I hope it's clear that we shouldn't remove the buffer circuit, as Owon did.
That was (supposedly) helpful in avoiding the very obvious 39 kHz.
But it’s counterproductive if you also want to suppress the 7.63 kHz by increasing the buffer capacity of the 2.5 V rail.
This is due to the specified maximum load capacitance of 10 µF for the reference chip.

I've now also taken a look inside the second Scope—which I bought from Voelkner this time—and, as expected, it's in the same condition as most of the others here.
It also has the old firmware installed—a good opportunity to document the current state before updating to the latest version, so that after the update, I can see what has changed.

Right now, I'm analyzing the current state of affairs using the new second DOV.
For example, when I look at the 500 µV/div setting on my scope—which hasn’t been modified yet—I have some doubts as to whether the modification to suppress the 7.63 kHz signal might be a bit excessive after all.
Here, for example, is a screenshot with the same settings as BOB45’s image....

Above all, what kind of signals would you even want to look at with 500 µV/div...
That gave me the idea to feed in a small signal.
At first I was confused, so I kept turning up the signal level until I reached 50 mVpp—that is, 25 mV peak plus or minus.
With the DOV, there's an offset, and the input is also prone to microphonic effects—in other words, just moving the BNC cable alone causes the “offset” to change.
Is the signal perhaps that bad? A check with the Siglent showed that no, it isn't.

I'd really like to see someone else do that—feed in a 50 mVpp/1 kHz square wave and set the vertical sensitivity to 10 mV/div.

@Martin72
What exactly would you like to see?
I once showed a 1mVpp sine wave here (second screenshot):
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/voltcraft-dov-series/msg6313280/#msg6313280
It's averaged, though, but at least the trigger was stable enough at 500uV/div to make that possible.

Here.
The signal source is an FY3224s, which comes ungrounded (floating) as standard.
However, I've made this switchable, as shown in the second picture (offset).
Probably just as goaty said.

By the way: My DSO2000 doesn't exhibit this behavior. No offset when switching the SG.
