    So it looks like the 3D is generated by knowing where the focal point of the camera is and then it just figures out what’s in focus at each z-step? I guess they use some kind of peak contrast detector. This would only work for this kind of system where you can absolutely control/calibrate the optical path (you’re paying $80k after all), but it’s a very neat way of avoiding traditional structured light 3D imaging to get extremely high z-resolution.
