Mountain bike from Germany. Given that I live in the Netherlands (i.e. Flatland), it's not the smartest move, but I wanted it badly.

I guess there was a little bit of misunderstanding with the bike consultant, but, to my surprise, he didn't flinch when I said I'm gonna use it in the city to do wheelies. I guess they are used to stupid demands and/or don't care.

My experience is... weird. It really feels like it was built for trails, not asphalt. It's also quite large. So, I went to a park near-by test it a little bit, it was doing fine. On normal roads it's noisy and feels not very efficient, but fine otherwise. Oh, and I often hit the top speed, esp. downhill. So, it's too slow on the smallest gear, but also too slow on the highest.

Anyway, jumping on a curb is no problem, and I'm happy about it. Oh, and that dropper seat, it's awesome. Don't know how I lived without it. Basically, I can adjust seat height any moment I want with a lever on the handlebar.

Reminds me of the article I read yesterday about sherpas building stairs on 'mountains' in Norway:

An MP305B power supply.  So far, it meets specifications.  When powered by an HKY 140W power adapter, its internal battery is not used so it can be used for long term applications, as well as for battery powered applications.  It is a hybrid design so the output is not noisy, compared to typical switchers.

That's nothing. I've spent a day in Belgium today on various errands by bicycle, 65km, and now need to visit the dentist to replace all the fillings that have fallen out.

They sure take it to the next level 'down South'....

Yeah it looks great, here we have tons of potholes so I prefer a MTB to ride around.
- You can swap out the front 32T? chainring for a larger size if you want to go faster. I believe 34T or 36T is max for that frame, beyond that you'll need to add spacers which will offset your chainline. Sometimes its ok sometimes not. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255800869016457.html
- The bars are likely super wide (800mm), most people should cut them down with a pipe cutter if you haven't already.

What's wrong with wide bars? Don't know about pushbikes but the ones on my motorbike are a fraction under 1m.

Perhaps nothing inherently. I just barely fit the gate at the parking lot  :D. I do plan to trim the bar a little bit.

As of where to ride, to my surprise there are some spots in NL. One is near my place, gonna go there tomorrow or a day after.
Speedbumps... Yeah, they don't matter even at full speed. Though my full speed is like 24km/h on this bike. But it's okay  :D

Its fine if you prefer it, but multiple reasons:
- motorcycle bars are wider to give more leverage to turn a heavier front wheel
- similar with downhill MTB, more leverage to prevent the wheel from twisting off a rough route
- bars are supplied at widest size specifically for people with wide shoulders, saves them having to sell multiple widths

When you're biking around town things like ergonomics, not hitting car mirrors, being able to fit through a doorway are more important than extra leverage.

Push up arm width is one recommendation, but its easy to experiment by removing the grips and sliding the levers in before cutting anything. I end up around 700mm.

Not from today, but it's my most recent purchases from US ebay.

Tektronix 011-0049-01 50 Ohm 2 Watt BNC Feed-through Termination 2W
The shipping to New Zealand was almost as expensive as the item, but I'm happy with my purchase.

Just spent two weeks in Tokyo with 3 visits to Akihabara. I'd list everything I bought there, but I might get in trouble for using up all the storage space on the eevblog servers!  ;D
Akihabaraa was always good, but with the current exchange rate it's unbelievable.

:-DD So how about a top five?

In no particular order:

1.44in 128x128 SPI OLED displays for €1.50
1in 128x32 SPI OLED displays for €2
Raspberry Pi Pico 2 for €5.60
ESP32 H2 Dev Kits for €7.50
RG316 SMA cables 1m for €2.20 / 2m €2.50

I was also looking for some small e-Paper displays, but they were strangely just as expensive or even more expensive than I can get on ebay.

raspberry pi 4020-zero waveshare-clone 3pack/$11usd (amazon)

99wh lifepo4 power "station" but outputs slightly more than 20volts (in spec) for 20v PDO even more than 4amp load.  oooh ahhh.  Loss leader for big toys $42usd amazon

I really haaaaaaaate  ETL and others allowing voltage dip under load.  My 20volt laptop wants 20volts.

shocking

rp2040 for diy FIDO2 token.  My plan is to randomize aaGUID to frustrate webauth attestation.  Not a token for a trading account: I use a serious token for that.  This is for snarky forums that give three options:  google (never), apple (nope), u2f.  And  I don't care to be tracked over properties by token identifiers.

Fluke 417D laser measurement device. Ideal for measuring rooms, spaces etc. Accurate to a few mm, up to 40m range, imperial or metric display. So much easier than getting the tape measure out. This is the simplest version but ideal for what I wanted.

Got the same one. I like that it's small. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the bigger ones like volume calculations but for quick distance metering it's very good and indeed very precise.
Buying 6-1/2 digit bench multimeters just to check if a regular nine-volt battery is still alive.

Two new Flukes followed me home this weekend, a 117 and a 189. Bought second-hand from a trusted source/acquantance and with a verifiable history of being actually new/unused.

First thing I did with the Fluke 189 was to break the calibration seal and open it to check the supercap for corrosion. Yep, was beginning to corrode alright but fortunately no damage had been done yet. I removed it immediately.

The 117 will be used for electricity work around the house, the 189 will become the new bench meter, replacing my trusty 30 year old no-brand DMM. That one was bought in 1996 and just wouldn't die or give me an excuse to buy a 'real' meter. So finally I gave myself an excuse by declaring that the old one wasn't cat-III rated and so not safe anymore for work on the distribution board, breaker panel and general repairs around the house.

If these Flukes also give me 30 years of service I will be a happy (old) man.....

thank you, @bingo600 for the knowledge upgrade

I remain surprised with copilot there is not a gh option to allow an in page ui to pick build options for almost diy so no chitchat required with copilot and no skills required other than the developer implementing a feature (non extant) to facilitate this

now to find uses for known-problematic 2040zero clones (credible amazon reviews (a rarity) indicate "high" demand breaks clones)

I'll return with my RP2350  purchase
