Update on Samsung Smarttag experience.

After Billy's next to an exit off the highway adventures, which were nervewrecking, he changed his plans. He left home and went completely off the radar. There was a vague signal sometimes, that is Fase 1 BLE, tag detected, not connected, fluctuating  Then he left home and stayed away for 36 hours. Not funny. Anyway far from cars with Samsung mobiles.

The big flower wholesale auction business in my backyard has a completely gated off terrain for their flower transport trains, also metal. Faraday's cage. Found him there rather quickly. He was very glad to see me. But he still didn't come home. In the evening went there with the transport box and took him home.

He is taking his house arrest as a good sport, we can sleep again.

Edit: again rotated picture. Will study this later. Fixed it thanks to BU508A. It's in the EXIF data.

Understanding the problem leads to the solution.

"Autorotate image according to EXIF info", disable in Irfanview options, rotate, save and bore other people with your photo's.

Not a picture of the cat, but...

The server anti-cat power down device.  Cat perches on top of server, stands on power button.  Not good.  So now I have a flip up safety cover.

Hope it works but it would fail here. Maxim would notice it as something "new" and would stat picking at it, pull it off, and proceed to stand on the power button again.

The other day she splayed out behind the keyboard and when I didn't pay her any attention took a swipe at my hand while typing....  somehow she or I hit the "Sleep" button and ... shut the PC down.  I didn't even know that button existed or worked, but I might disable it.

It becomes twice as funny when you realize the cat probably understood the crux of the question, "you" and "cat".

I've read that cats think of themselves as cats, of course.  But they also think of their owners as cats.

It's much funkier than that.  They obviously can tell the difference between a human, a cat, and a dog; but they don't seem to grasp the difference in behaviour.  Research does also indicate they do understand many human words, just don't care.

A good example is BilliSpeaks on Youtube:  She seems to understand pretty complex human concepts and even "soon" and "later" (and coffee = "catnip water"), but I don't think she can tell the difference between "play" and "hunt".  I don't think any cat can.

To me, it indicates cats' model of "self" and "other" is quite different to those of humans, monkeys, and some birds (see mirror neuron).  It also makes a lot of sense for it to differ, as most of the domestic cats' social behaviour, including cat colony behaviours, has evolved in interaction with humans, i.e. during "domestication".

I've been watching BilliSpeaks since you mentioned it last year. Her apparent overloading of the 'Squirrel' button with both the abstract animal and a nickname for a human friend was particularly fascinating. Months later she pressed 'Cuddle' with 'Squirrel', which seemed to indicate that the concept was firmly established in her mind (one doesn't cuddle a prey animal). I do wonder how much of it is editing, anthropomorphising or the 'Clever Hans' effect though.

My cat has a particular dislike of mirrors. There's one mirror in the house hanging on a wall between two windows. He will often sit on the dressing table in front and stare into it. He'll look at my reflection and then turn around and look at me, clearly annoyed (ears back, tail flicking, irritated yawn). There can't be another room behind that 'window' (it would be hanging in space above the driveway) and how am I in two places at once? Troubling stuff. I did once take the mirror down to show him the other side, but it didn't seem to help. He's one of the most intelligent cats that we've owned, but there definitely are hardware limits.

There is a nice little book by John Gray:

"Feline philosophy, cats and the meaning of life". I bought it after a preview on youtube.

And Smarttags are not waterproof, so I've got RTV gasket applied.
