Dave, you are making money on this right? I know it's not overly expensive for PCBs to be made, but at the rate it's going, there may be many hours of mailing ahead. Just let us know that you are making a living wage on this. AU$15 for 5 is a great deal I think.
And now I wait for the delivery sometime in late september.
They cost about 70 cents in volume. Could be cheaper, but that's what I'm paying.
Postage would be AU$2.60 from Oz to US if sent as a letter (which you technically aren't allowed to do, but it works)
The problem is when you get hundreds of people who want one and you spend a couple of days stuffing envelopes.
For 2 boards sent to the US:
Material costs: cost of a board * quantity of boards + postage
Material costs: $0.7*2 + $2.60 = $4.
Remainder after material cost = $8.86 (after paypal etc fees) - $4 = $4.86.
Effective pay per hour before tax: boardsSentPerHour * $4.86
*Note that with 5 rulers for $15 the increased cost of $5 is less than the increased material cost of the extra boards.
WHere did that quote come from? I must have missed it.

Like I said in the other thread, costing is:
For a $10 order of two boards:
$8.86 after fees
-$2 for the boards
-$2.60 for the stamp
-$0.03 for envelope
-$0.02 for label
$4.21 profit for stuffing one envelope.
Worth it?
Then I pay 30% tax on that.
Suggestion for next time - do them as a snappable panel, include space in the waste for an address label. No need for an an envelope - just label and post!

Several reasons why that's not desirable:
Snappable panel is not good for a ruler, you need clean routed edges.
You pay more for the board area.
It is very questionable whether Aust Post will accept that. It is not clear that you even allowed to send anything but dead tree in an envelope, depends who you ask. Such a board would raise a red flag instantly (no pun intended) at every step of the delivery process.

Not to mention scratching the rulers while in transit.
Mission creep.
Why not add a few SOIC>DIL & SSOP>DIL pads in an (underused) area, just for those emergencies.

Appreciate all the above - I wasn't being entirely serious...
just ordered my 5 rulers. Probably give a few away to friends
Had something similar to this from a pcb supplier but unfortunately they put the drill holes in the middle of the ruler and not at one end like dave has done it
regards
I seem to have missed this project? Where can they be ordered from? I've done a search on "uRuler" but nothing much is coming up.
Martin.
Thanks, ordered 5 ,don't know why my search didn't work.
Martin.
The search on this forum is quite useless in my opinion. Searching with Google using "site:eevblog.com" works much better.

Well, in Germany you can do it...

...I can almost hear of lots of EEVBloggers rummaging around to see what old crap they have lying aroud that they can put a stamp on to see if it makes it to Dave's PO box.... maybe that's a competition in the making...
I printed a postcard on Photo paper front and back and it arrived safely through the post from SA to Martin Lorton.
I may try etching a PCB with his address and electronic postage label :-)
I wonder why i get
>>Your payment can not be completed because one of the recipients at this time can not receive payments.<<
on paypal ?

I have the same problem. Some googling around seems to indicate it may be a currency conversion problem.
I get the same, but in Dutch: "Uw betaling kan niet worden voltooid omdat een van de ontvangers momenteel geen betalingen kan accepteren."
It shows me the amount of € so it looks like the conversion is ok.
Is Dave's PayPal account full?
Someone go and wake up Dave!
He is missing on uRuler purchases/donations.
When my 5 pcs of uRuler finally arrive, how can I proctect them from nasty fingers which etch away the gold and copper (through scratches) over time? Or should I wash my uRuler in IPA or acetone after each use? Use medical whipes? And put them in a silk pouch after each use?
I want the properties of uRuler to remain the same, not become stiff or anything, and still remain very straight on the edges.
Also like someone pointed out on youtube, is it safe to put precious uRulers loose in same envelope? What if they will be scratched? Has Dave done thorough testing on maybe five (5) uRulers in a same envelope and used steppermotors/servos to toss it around for 24h or something? Cheap Chinese pcb houses usually have some kind on shrinkwrap around pcbs, so they don't flop around and scratch each other in the package. Has Sagan thoroughly tested uRulers to be safe and suitable for long time use?
That's not funny.
But a sagan review should be XD

I do hope you're joking.
30% tax on $4.20 means you get to keep $2.94.
I'm assuming you can do at least 1 envelope a minute that'll be $176.4 per hour.
