Tuesday there was a monster storm here, over 10cm of rain in the morning, and massive flooding and damage all over. These were rescued from the church next door, where they were living in the drain, and it flooded out of course. Now dry, well fed and looking for new homes, and quite comfortable with me.
I was out with Clive in his pickup, and we left the dumpsite 9H30, with sun shining. 10 minutes later we were in a downpour that got heavier, then windier, then hail, with visibility down to under 50m. Van went from caked with mud from the tyres to the roof ( dumpsite is kind of wet from previous rail the weekend) to washed, rinsed, power washed and cleaned in the 1 hour it took to get back. Had to change clothes as well, wet through and caked with mud as well. That afternoon I got these kittens delivered to me in a box, sopping wet and cold, so stopped at the vet and got kitten milk for them, and they are surviving fine, though the mother cat is missing.
Locally there were a lot of cars destroyed in flooding, and many places lost the roofs along with the flooding. Quite a few insurance claims going through, and I was lucky, no damage at all from it.
Still not a fan of cats but goodonya!!

Well, they started eating wet food now, and hopefully this weekend they will find homes as well.
This is Wren. I found him "purrrr-ched" in a silver pine tree in the park. As you can imagine, he stood out like a sore thumb, so I took him in, fed him, cared for him, the whole deal.
Turns out he really had a knack for spotting which parts are genuine and which are chinesium fakes. He slept in TME boxes only if ALL the parts were genuine.
When substandard parts are used for overpriced products. Or when someone thinks adding mayonaise to a CPU socket will help with cooling.
Caption: THATS NOT HOW THAT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!
Micah Elizabeth Scott programs a GPU to recognize a cat.
Works remarkably well considering it's in a very early stage. The detection of other objects is far less reliable but tracking the cat is the main goal.
Just for perspective.... this is _not_ a cat.

Your cats looks a bit upset.

Hmm, two ears, two eyes, mouth in the right place, four legs with feet on, a bushy tail. Why is this not a cat, please explain?

Then, from what you say, wouldn't this be a cat also?
I wonder whether Micah's code can recognise cats, or just specifically Tuco?
He's quite distinctive; nothing else in the lab is tabby coloured. But would it recognise a ginger cat, or a white one?
My cat Rocky is white with tabby patches. Perhaps he'd be classified as a whole family of cats? And as for his brother Sebastian, I've no idea.

You misunderstood. This thread is about cats. He just told us this is "is _not_a", which is his cat. It's a peculiar name for a cat, but I'm not one to judge.

Yes, neural networks tend to have the annoying habit of being right for all the wrong reasons
This comes to bite you when you change the input.
I have posted my cats before though this cat deserves his own post now.
Meet Garfield, dumb as a sack of rocks and no i am not just saying that. He is half bobcat and not quite done growing, currently he can stretch end to end 4 feet and when walking is at least 2 inches taller than any of my other cats.
His mouth is large enough that he could get it around a baseball, he is currently around 40 pounds and that linoleum tile he is sitting on is a sq foot, which he fills.
Luckily, very luckily, he is very friendly.

I'm asking is all.
Explain the difference to me, I can't see anything that proves or disproves the stated "facts"..
Today it was their first time in the snow.
Pooch is definitely a cool cat! I enjoy his cameos in TSP videos.

Santa Claws is coming...
...and he does not look pleased...

To my great surprise, he sat still and wore it for the better part of a minute before swatting it off and then attempting to eat it.

Sadly, my live tree ornament crossed the rainbow bridge this past summer
