Well, I've gotten too long winded again, ................
Never !
Thanks for dropping in again David and sharing with us those times you had with Fluke which if little else give us an insight and a wonderful historical record of those days.
Please carry on.
PS, ever thought about writing a book ?
Very temped to grab one of your meters.....
Similar feeling here. David, your insights are quite valuable and I love hearing the stories. For others, I recommend listening to the AmpHour episode, which is filled with interesting bits.
I too had a few articles published (nothing really novel as the 8060A), but I was fortunate to have a final revision sent to me.
The major drawback in my case was the space in the magazine, which forced me to do some severe editing. I also had a hard time fitting the text nicely between ads or an article break ( the phrase "continues on page XYZ"), so an idea or train of thought wouldn't be lost between pages of ads.
Can be the electrolytic capacitors in the unit have leaked as well. Common problem.

Yep. Open it up and have a good look around inside. See if there's any corrosion or gunk anywhere on the PCB.
I just got my hands on a 8060A, which I probably paid a bit too much for (especially shipping, *€%&/%&€€%&(/ Ebay GSP
), but side-button Flukes were the holy grail of my teen gear dreams. (sort of a wonder that I've got a wife and children, but I digress.) I had to have one. I just unpacked it, opened it, put a new battery in, and in this
TEA thread post I've got some pics proving that buying quality pays off. Apologies for the -
hp- if there are fanboys around, but the 974A holds its ground well and is my reference in absentio calibration.
Thanks for a really nice multimeter, drtaylor!
hi i have a problem with my dad's fluke 8020a. The screen is fine, it turns on and moves the points on the screen, but it does not measure anything, it is at 0 and the on-screen indicator of the BT battery is always active, please help.
-capacitors ok
-pcb clean
HELP
You need to start a new thread, this is not the place.
I'll just leave this here and run away
Good one, BD139
Identical to my grey 27/FM - a weapon that could take down any threat.
He was only putting dowels in pre-drilled holes.... that's about 4% of what this meter is capable of.
Maybe we need a Dave drop test.
errr.... You mean a meter drop test
Joe Smith's DMM drop tests are the best....from the roof of his house onto concrete !
Don't know which vids of his they are in but some DMM's just bounce yet others just don't !
Lotsa bits !

Dave's meter drop test. Can't remember where he went that was not a building but he dropped a fluke quite some height a few years ago.
damn, thought it was: lbry://@eevblog#7/eevblog-868-keysight-u1282a-multimeter#3
Well I think this one will be appropriated here (Image is not mine, it is from Reddit, probably the original owner is also a user here, since he have a EEVBlog DMM) -
Fluke 81438 or basically a rebadged Fluke 111, the first Fluke I used that was the introduction to the Fluke Brand.

Yep that's me! Bought that Fluke 15+ years ago - works great

That keeb is sweet, specially with that keycaps. What it misses now is a USB-C coiled cable, orange with the LEMO connector painted in white.
Anymore, they get dropped 1meter onto a 2" thick slab of hardwood.
I tried to do a few more extensive tests for Fungus to simulate his meter inside the back of his truck going down a farm field, or something like that....

Where can i find the recap BOM for an 8060A? or do I have to open up the unit and do it the old fashioned way ( collect the BOM information )?
I have read through this entire thread, and learned a lot about the 8060A, and other Fluke meters.
I have 3 of the 8060A meters, and use them all the time.
One of them needs to have the Zebra Strips cleaned, as the display is getting flaky.
2 of them have no-name electrolytic caps, which I plan on replacing.
The third meter has Nichicon-branded electrolytics. Am I correct that these should NOT require replacement?
