Reuben Titus here from middle TN USA.  Got into ham radio as a teen about 1980.  Been a researcher and experimenter ever since in many areas of interest, besides radio electronics and energy generation I've been a logger, sawmiller,  working on agriculture development in nutrient dense fertility,  nutrition and natural healing,  been into horses and training some.   Tried truck driving but it's way too boring combined with high stress.

Hello,
 Felt a sudden rush to impulse buy my first bench multimeter so I decided to join and slow it down.

GW Instek GDM-8251A and Fluke 8842a are the ones I am leaning towards.  Once I find my way around perhaps I will ask but it looks as if most noob questions have been answered. 

Really enjoy, repairing and modding audio equipment, I program and design for online radio.  In the military I worked with UHF and VHF antennas and maintained and repaired communications equipment. 

Am a new happy owner of a Hakko 951 and 2030.

Much respect, lots of amazing people here.  Have been reading for quite sometime.  Am happy to finally get to an age where I seemed to narrow my passions down and happy to be here.

Hi everyone. I am IT manager and former software engineer, who, when getting bored with business systems at work, finds relief in building hobbyist electronics projects at home. I got into electronics at the age of 8, gave it up when in university, then got back into the hobby in my 40ies. I am residing in Boston, and before moving in here I worked in different parts of the world, including Russia, Singapore and Australia.

Hi everyone, my first post here.  A few months ago, I stumbled upon Dave's YouTube videos on how to put together an electronics lab for cheap and how to buy a $50 oscilloscope on eBay.  Well, I did manage to find that scope, power supply, function generator, and DMM for about $50 each.  Thanks, Dave!  But now, I'm addicted to test equipment and I'm a Voltnut wannabe.    All I wanted was to get some TE to build some circuits and test it in SPICE, but now I'm finding myself trolling eBay for cheap broken test equipment hoping to fix and revive it to something that I can use. Anybody else out there suffering from this fun addiction?

I'm an electronics technologist but my job's steadily shifted towards being more and more IT based over the last number of years.  I've slowly been putting together a workshop at home over the last couple of years as time and money have permitted so I can do my own projects.  It's amazing what's available now at reasonable prices on the used and surplus test equipment market.

Well my name is Marcio, I'm Portuguese but I'm currently living in Shenzhen, China with my wife.

My study background is on Computer Science And Technology but I had a vocational 3 year in a technical school about the following subjects:

Range of skills for:
 -  Reading, interpretation and implementation of schemes and / or drawings of analogue and digital electronic circuits, including books and technical manuals for electronic components and systems used in command and control equipment;
 -  Perform installation, repair and maintenance of modules or electronic equipment used in the command and control of industrial equipment, using tools and measuring instruments and test appropriate;
 -  Carrying out maintenance and repair of digital equipment and / or IT systems, as well as test the operation of industrial equipment (total or partial).

Basically my everyday electronics use s basic measurements with a DMM and momentary some easy repairs using the soldering iron, so most of what I learned was basically forgotten since I dedicated myself to the IT. Although currently I have too much time to think (looking for a job) so the electronics bug started moving again and I'm thinking of probably start learn a lot more and do a degree in a university in the future if things go OK. Yes most of the things I read here are a foreign language to me (In Portugal we say that "That's Chinese to me!" but since I'm in China and trying to learn Chinese, well it's worse than Chinese) and most of the technical terms slip from my mind.

Normally they say that probably I'm too old to start or that I should had started 10 years before... Yes probably but life never goes as we wanted. Well enough rambling.

So in advance I will say sorry if I make or say any stupid thing related with electronics, or if I do noob questions. I will try to search and google it a lot before I make a stupid question.

Hi, my name is Phil and I live in Chapel Hill, NC, USA.  I am a hobbyist when it comes to electronics, and have been dabbling in this stuff since I was a kid, although now as an adult I have the money to dive in to a deeper degree than I did in my youth. My areas of interest include retro-computing (I'm working on building a Zilog Z80 based machine), ham radio (callsign KM4VLN), SDR, using magnets for cool shit (coilguns, for example), home automation, and, really, anything else you can do with electricity.   

Professionally, I work as a Solution Architect for a major multinational corporation, working with a team of Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to build and deploy AI and ML based solutions.

The last tidbit about me that might be vaguely interesting is that I was a volunteer firefighter for about a decade, and was a 911 dispatcher for a while. So public safety (especially the fire service) has always been near and dear to my heart.

I've been watching Dave's videos on and off for at least 5 years or so. My background is in software engineering, I've built web service applications for startups, industrial facilities, and AAA game studios. In my spare time I enjoy fiddling around with ham radio (KJ6WRJ), electronics, woodworking, and aircooled volkswagens.

That said, I don't have quite as much time to dedicate to my hobbies lately as I have in the past. I've got 4 kids (5, 3, and twin newborns) that keep me pretty busy for most of the time I'm not at work.

Long time subscriber to the Youtube channel, but just now registered to forums after discovering how interesting it is !

I actually went to electronics college over 20 years ago, but life took me towards computers and programming from year 1, so never actually practiced serious electronics (maybe just dabbling with repairing some things left and right).
I still find physics and electronics engineering fascinating, and who knows, maybe when I retire from the programmer job I'll restart working on electronics as a hobby... but that's still many years away.

But who knows, perhaps by being on this forum it will happen sooner?

my name is Jan and I live in West-Cork in Ireland. Originally I am from Germany but fell in love with the beautiful countryside at the south-west coats of Ireland. I am a qualified electrician (many many years ago) and have experience mostly in the industrial and commercial field of work. Was also for a spell in the defense forces where I had mainly to do with Power Generation for mobile weapon systems. Since 1999 I am full time in IT working on the network side of things as Network Engineer with a focus on MAN and WAN networks for ISPs in Germany and Ireland. Through the entire time I was always interested in electronics and tinkered around with stuff, sometime with success more time with magic smoke ;-). Never did the math properly etc...... I want to spend more time on electronics now along with 3D printing. Both go hand in hand very well I think. I have recently started to get myself proper equipment. Have to admit I also bough some stuff that turned out to be crap (Uni-T Multimeter comes to mind). I have done some work related stuff with Arduinos for backup battery monitoring of voltage and current but I am not a big programmer. I usually get by finding snippets of code or circuits on the Internet and adapt and modify to suit my needs. I am now faced with the need of a new bench power supply. I currently have a PSU from the 80th (I think), an old PowerTronic Linear supply +/- 15V, +5V and 0-24V 0-2A. I like this PSU but I like better to build my own. I have found some projects on the Internet that look promising, one in particular with is using a modular approach. So that will be my 1st project to start in depth why each component is the value it is and why its there, understanding how it works and how I can adapt it safely and reliable to my needs. I am watching the the Youtube channel since some time, love it !!!

I have one pressing question to start with so I go and seach if it was answered before.
