This is what I was told on the phone by a Mouser representative.

The excuse sounds a little mangled.

More likely, is ADI has some MOQ that is above what you wanted, and Mouser then have to decide on taking the risk of slow moving stock, or declining the order.
There are also export restrictions in play, which vary by country.

The exact same thing happened to me last year with an order from Mouser for ADI components (ADR1001AEZ & DG444DY+).
Mouser show over 8000 pcs of  DG444DY+ in stock, and an impressive 635 pieces of ADR1001AEZ in stock.

Even when I placed the order in September 2025, those components were still in good supply.
The curious thing is that I had already placed an order previously (8 months earlier) that included the same material, and there were no problems.
Something changed in the company's policies at the end of the year.

Is this ALL ADI(/LT?) parts? Or just the references in particular?

Because if it's the former then it's a very sad day for hobbyists (and also when at the day job, a huge discouragement to design anything ADI/LT into even a commercial product unless unavoidable - they're already difficult enough to deal with as a commercial customer).

For me the problem were a LT3094 voltage regulator and a LT1008 opamp.

AD DS2401 canceled without further notice.  :--

...and also new for me: free shipping from 75€ on, not from 50€ on...

...will purchase more from Digikey...

The free shipping threshold change is rather annoying though not entirely surprising (33 GBP/50 USD order min. was a pretty good deal and I'm amazed it lasted this long).
The fact that even standard parts are not being sold to individuals is very concerning though - given the consolidation in the industry, a few more manufacturers going this way could seriously harm the prospects of getting into electronics as a hobby then career (at least in the west...)  |O

Anyway I'm going to try and order an ADI part (no real alternative and I need it) from digikey tonight to see if that at least is still possible. Otherwise I wonder if ordering to a business address (but not on a business account) gets around it?

Just chiming in for the Mouser - AD component restrictions: these are imposed by AD, no matter what you are buying from them. Mouser cancelled the shipment of all AD ICs in a recent order but allowed anything else to be shipped with no further issues. For the record, these are PDIP-8 technology ICs from last century that I had already ordered before with no problems.

TI on the other hand does not impose any restrictions (yet).

The "iron skullcap" has recently used up large quantities of interceptors, and parts for their guidance systems don't grow on trees. Parts from the late 1990s have become a "strategic resource of primary importance," entering logistics centers as "special-purpose" items only with the approval of a privileged recipient. What are they supposed to order from the Chinese? (when Taiwan's war looms on the horizon), after all, the production lines in the US were long ago dismantled because they were too expensive, and some of these "oldies" were transferred to cheaper production for cheap labor. And now we need to rebuild the "interceptor" stockpile...

I tried to order 6 ADR1399 @ mouser, same result.
I had a phone call today with mouser Munich. The sales guy confirmed, that mouser forces them since October 2025, not to sell any parts any more to private people, but to companies only.
I tried now to order via digikey, and up to now, the order is postponed since a few days.
I guess, that they will cancel the AD parts as well, so I will ask another volt-nuts, to use his professional purchasing channels for my order.

This is some really sad development I see here and undermining any non-commercial gain of knowledge.

I am happy to help out fellow voltnuts in those times. I do frequently order from Mouser/Digikey/Farnell via my business account.

Is there a official statement from Analog Devices explaining why they don´t want to see their parts sold to private customers?

The current American attitude appears to be that you don't need a reason.

That's such a hugely undiscerning generalization. Besides, I'm pretty sure the AD trend has nothing to do with other considerations. This corporate trend is ubiquitous across the industry. Probably primarily having to do with the cost of the associated overhead, the well known supply chain disruptions and costs, etc. Which certainly impacts other manufacturers (WIMA comes to mind).

This comment makes me wonder about your obvious bias. Ignoring that, I don't think you fully understand how difficult it is to support tens or hundreds of thousands of individuals on a retail level. That is why you have the distributors to manage the support of end users. That's not a "uniquely American" attitude, it's simply a fact. As a consumer, I understand how this works and source my parts as necessary.

If that´s the problem it would be enough to reduce the public interaction and offer professional support just to bigger companies?
Giving some reels to Mouser and Co. so they sell it piece by piece should not be a huge effort for AD?

I don't think anyone in this community is happy about this turn. We're just offering some vantage points regarding possible reasons. Some of us are more of less immersed in the corporate world, some in the US corporate world, and so the points may be more or (a bit) less pertinent.

Even a minimal structure for supplying and servicing a separate line of business may be an "excessive" cost for the bean counters. I personally think it's essential to promoting these products, testing their functionality in a diverse set of applications, etc. - so almost a "free" benefit. Besides, many here may be hobbyists on this platform, but are decision makers and big shots in their professional lives. I know some interesting stories as to how this played out on occasion.

But you're preaching to the proverbial choir.

AD still give Mouser and Co some reels, as Mouser and Co still sell to companies. To who Mouser and Co sells these should not affect the costs of AD. So I see no point in the "additional costs" argument.

I ordered 6 ADR1399 @DigiKey, and it seems that they will deliver them w/o any problem.
So only mouser is following ADs new policy.
I already wondered, why AD tries to make pressure on their distributors, as the business relationship and possible trouble towards the end customers is on the shoulders of the latter.

This trouble with mouser evidently also has NOTHING to do with that stupid generalization 'The American attitude'.

DigiKey has got guts, mouser not.

As far as i remember, when importing parts from US distributors to Germany i always used some tax registration numbers. This was about EU import VAT. When i closed my business that registration got deleted and i could no longer order from Mouser, while Digikey continued their support.
Apparently Digikey never checked the validity of the registration. Maybe it was a little more complicated as there were two registrations: One was a German VAT registration and the other one in a European system (as far as i remember named Atlas).

Now that i live in Brasil i can import what i want using my CPF, but the import tax is about 150 %.
Anyway i have more buried zener references than i will ever need.

Regards, Dieter

..
The Chinese, or other countries will not have any commercial interest in re building such ancient analog fabs, or to copy the LTZ or ADR chip. I guess as well, that this attempt would not be technically successful with more modern fabs and technologies. (to be discussed)
The other, more important reason is, that the LTZ1000  is a niche product..

..all those devices were rather niche and also cheap (considering their uniqueness), so when the world re-shuffles itself (in say 5-10years) other manufacturers will start to produce them too..
Till then we have to face the dark silicon times..  :(

Readers discretion is advised..

This also suggests some quirky corporate policies. Not all corporations are the same or arrive at the same resolutions every time.
