installing STM32Cubeprogrammer (java issue)
« on: October 08, 2020, 09:09:18 pm »
Hello,

I am running new windows 10 fresh install on my laptop, having issue installing BOTH CubeMX AND Cubeprog, either one of them does not launch or install or the other one does not install or launch.

If I go with java OpenJDK 8, the Cubeprog works and installs, but the Cubemx refuses to launch or install. If I remove JDK or let it be and also install the java from this link/post, then Cubeprog does not launch or install.

https://community.st.com/s/question/0D53W00000G1xFLSAZ/installation-issue

What gives?

I have no problems here with Windows 10 and STM32CubeIDE v1.4.0.
I'm using:
Java 8 Update 261 (32 bit)
Java SE Development Kit 14 (64 bit)

Btw you don't need to install STM32CubeMX as a separate program, you only need to install STM32CubeIDE which will auto download and install STM32CubeMX as a plugin, which then runs inside the STM32CubeIDE when you start a new project or double-click the .ioc file in your STM32 project.

Hmm, I see you have Java 8 Update 202 installed but that is nearly a whole year old (Jan 15 2019), why not install the latest Java 8 Update 261?
Also, the same goes for the Java SE Development Kit, you have installed a rather old version kit 8, latest is version 15.

I suggest try uninstalling the old java stuff and install the latest ones from here:

Hey people, I'm sorry.

It works now when running as administrator.

But if I don't run as administrator I get the java_api prompt every single time.

My setup is as above. windows 10 new install.

Good luck.

so what if its old? It works?

This comes from the proposition here.

Also I hear there a license thing now, and too old is not secure.

Anyways, whatever works....right?

and too old is not secure
This, the problem is that security leaks once they are fixed are published.
Each bug or vulnerability gets an unique id.
What security engineers do is exactly what hackers do, look at the published vulnerabilities and see if they can exploit them. The security engineers seek fame, the hackers seek fortune.

Try installing on a Mac. Hopeless. I dont know which version of MacOS they used for development, but certainly nothing from the last few years.

from time to time  we deal or we are forced to deal with..

some sort of really digital ignorance - or deliberate IGNORANTS et. al.

One of their master pieces when downloading their "tools" and utilities
is a large screen of warning screaming  that  any browser not
days older..  is outdated to browse their site.

I prefer to think they hired COMPLETE DUMB ASS HOLES which
can not even write plain basic html pages.

I prefer to assume that and rather download other software
and tools to deal with their tools...

they do exist. although rather tricky without their support
and behind those really ignorant folks requiring a browser
version to download a crappy driver...

From time to time I am required to enter their sick pages..
Results are not very different from yours..

As you have discovered, OpenJDK will fight with some of the STM32Cube stuff.

In the picture, you can see all the three ugly musketeers (IDE, Programmer and MX) happily living together with Java 8 update 261, 64 bit version.

Alrite, maybe I'll give it a go...

@ tru

Your method might work, exept you cant really have 2 ioc files open at once to see wtf you did 6 months ago... Its more dodging the problem not facing it.

@ all

there is some bug somewhere.

you need to re-install the cubeprogrammer, its glitchy.

once you are set up like this

Java update 261
Java SE development kit 8 update 261 (64-bit)

now re-install the programmer, and run as admin. not admin is bugged.

@newbrain.
[---8<---]
Java update 261
Java SE development kit 8 update 202 (64-bit)
Away from the PC now, but I did check the list at the time:
I only have the 64 bit Java 8 update 261 and nothing else.
The account I use does not have administrative rights.

Java should be dead and buried (and not mourned)  by now in consumer space.

Agree that Java is slow EOL rubbish however there is no multi OS successor, if you want to write one program for multiple OS's you have little choice, or would you like cloud run programs in a VM, that if you want to change something in three years nothing works anymore and you can start from scratch.

Any good multi platform library such as Qt?
Even something like .NET/mono...

And yes, let's hope there's no cloud on the horizon...
