Did anybody figure how to enable higher memory options?
Low serial numbers (like mine) do have up to 16Mpts already on board but mine does not have any memory option and only has 4Mpts enabled.
A software key enables 04 and 08 memory options which I really need . Has anybody figured how to do that?
higher serial numbers have the highest memory already installed and need software key to enable them
Any new information about this ?
I have 54831M with only 2Mpts memory :-(

The option is enabled with a license key. The maximum I could enable was 64 MPts on 54833A.

Confirmed. My 54831B (M) is now 54832B (M). But must be recalibrated, in my case.

Just did this incredibly difficult mod to my 54830B, can confirm it now thinks its a 1ghz model! Running self test currently, thank you so much for publishing this!! Now I just have to figure out how to get more licenses for it, does anyone here have any experience on that? I can start a new thread if needed, not sure how that should be done.

The memory on this oscilloscope can be expanded with a license key.
The license key is generated according to the oscilloscope's option ID.

How is the key generated? Not sure I have a "license key generator". The OS on my scope was an image someone on here provided which already had several options enabled.

What is the voice option?
I don’t know why the numbers are garbled. They were fine before when I installed the image; and I used the same image on bitg scopes.
Maybe I’ll have to reinstalled the whole image again when I won’t look forward to.

The message was: License installation failed. The license is not compatible with this product. Please contact Agilent technical support.

I made two directories. One is named 'Corrupt Number' and that's the scope with the garbled characters and the other 'Good Number' is the scope with the good characters.

My key generator doesn't work for "B" model oscilloscope, it works only for model "A".
Apparently model "B" is newer and uses a different algorithm.

Ah okay.
It was an 'M' version before I removed the resistor to increase the BW.
Also, I noticed the option ID number was garbled before too (I had taken a picture of the screen and saved it). The image used was the same for both oscilloscopes, and both got the resistor removed, however, one has garbled numbers and the other doesn't.
How do I know what rate my scope is viewing at (32MPts or 64MPts)?

I'm afraid that the scope will run slower due to its limited RAM. This is why I didn't install additional options; and resulted in forgetting I had notes on it. Will one disadvantage be a slower scope and may mess up measurements?

The oscilloscope will not work slower, don't worry. How and what do you want to change?

Going through my notes, I have a text document with numerous options. If I remember correctly, it was a dump from a ROM or whatever and the names aren't obvious as to what the option does.

To answer your question, I guess this would be on option to change, but not sure what advantages it has.
From reading, someone added every option and it caused slow boot time for the scope. If every option is added, or many options added, how does this not slow down the scope?
I'd assume it uses RAM to have the options enabled.

It depends on what you mean by "resolution."
The acquisition memory depth for storing samples. Sometimes called the acquisition buffer. It enables the sample rate to stay higher at longer time bases. Or to capture longer time bases with lower sample rate.
At the time when this class of Infiniium was launched, it had the "MegaZoom ASIC." It is a memory controller that helps manage deep acquisition memory. Its primary feature was that the screen stayed responsive and the update rate stayed fast when capturing longer buffer lengths. Other oscilloscopes at the time would always transfer the entire acquisition buffer to the CPU which took a long time. If no measurements are turned on, MegaZoom only transfers enough data for a reasonable display. Essentially, it was a very intelligent decimator.

Makes a bit more sense. I was thinking it was "resolution" in the sense of samples it collects.
Attached is the list of "upgrades" that can possibly be added; I mentioned this file a message or two ago.
They are not defined, so I'm uncertain about the function of each one. At the end is something called '64MPts' which I assume is the upgrade in discussion now.
I'm really not in need of making my scopes have more bells and whistles, but any performance upgrades/enhancements would be nice.
Why is it that enabling features will not slow the scope? Believe I asked this in either this thread or another, but not sure I understood the answer. Seems to me the more features enabled results in eating more RAM.

So been reading and yet to come across an answer, hoping to get guidance for my scope. I just purchased two 54831M with win98se and would like add the options but also would like to know what options are installed. I would like to keep one with 98se and upgrade the options and play with changing the OS to XP and upgrade the options on the other. Help with this would be much appreciated.
Found that I search 54831 vs 54831b mor pops up to read. Time for more digging.
