lol I'm in for $2k worth.....this will be funny if I get a shipping confirmation.  With ebay and pay pal buyer protections there is no issue about getting "scammed".....I have dealt with deadbeat ebay deals before and got my money back within a couple days of filing complaint

If, by some miracle the units show up at the warehouse, I will be happy to re-list them for a couple hundred bucks each and keep a few dozen for the lab.....

Just imagine having a keithly psu to power each component in a development topology.... :-DD

Time to order a few bags of pomona quick clips, some bananas and some hook-up wire  :-+

This is not the EEVBlog crowd that I used to know. This is my worst day on this forum.

where is your sense of humor sir?

Trying to get a business out of business is not my kind of humour.

I'll throw in a smiley though :)

it's a business, that violates ebay marketplace rules....these types of scams dilute the legitimate marketplace....I cited some potential examples further back in the thread.  this does impact us all, because it might be that some honest seller was trying to sell a similar item, and was shut out of the market, by this scam listing....

hope you can see the real chain of events and what is going on under the surface here....

*puts on tin foil hat* *"It's all a conspiracy"!!*

thanks for the smiley  :)

Someone mentioned earlier that these are $1k items, how would an item listed as $10 shut out legitimate items?  Do you seriously consider a $1k item for $10 as being real??  Any smart person would just put the minimum cost at $50 or so and suddenly all the crap is gone.  No one lost out on sales, at least not from someone they would want purchasing from them.

Can you share your ebay name?  I'd like to block you so I'm not reamed dry if I pass my handling time by 10 minutes.

I have received three of them so far... coincidence?

Yes. I have nothing to do with this and have received many of these emails over the last few days.

I think this thread needs to be closed down now, it's a waste of the SQL database :)

No one will get this PSU, they probably never have or never will sell this item at any price, it's just an error. Hopefully we all have our funds back and was worth a punt in the beginning.

Looking back I am glad I didn't get one as this might have ruined someone's business and life.

I have got these Paypal phishing messages... to my regular e-mail address, and none for the address I use both for eBay and PayPal. Very much unrelated to this seller, I think.
Whoa! How the hell did Dave know that Bob is my uncle? Amazing!

I get 2-3 phishing emails each month. I always forward them to the reporting address of the company being impersonated.
I have rather low regard for companies that either don't offer reporting or don't care (indistinguishable).
Those companies get pushed down in the hierarchy of who I will do business with in the future.

Hi guys, I'm pleased to announce I received my $11 Keithley from ebay today. As irrefutable evidence, here it is, I took the snap while it was floating in all its glory above my psychedelic in your dreams workbench.

Please don't knock honest to god ebay sellers when they can meet their promises and deliver. :-DD

That may not be a brilliant idea: there is nothing that company can do about them, and if everyone forwards the message they will have a huge metric sh'ton of them. Indeed, one of the worst effects of spam is automated bounce messages going back to the (impersonated and innocent) originator.

There is even a special DNS anti-spam measure designed to combat it:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sender_Policy_Framework

Please stop forwarding the messages. It does no-one any good and you are manually breaking the SPF system.

IME, most big online companies have special email addresses where they ENCOURAGE people to forward phishing or other malware email messages.
For example:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
and many others.....

And many of them actively reply and follow up on all reports to stop the phishing expedition.
It is in their best interest to counteract as much of this as possible.

My bank does the same thing and often reiterates it on their website and all their communications.

This is a scam to try and sell there PSU's at 10% off MSRP , OFF EBAY.

NO. It is not.

They probably never will have these PSUs. They will probably never sell them.

I don't get it.  If they will never have or sell these PSUs, then isn't listing them -- by definition -- a scam?

It's either a scam, or a mistake. If they're making money from charging people and not delivering the product, that would definitely be a scam.

I got a message fro EBay that there are sorting the problem.
Asked for my order to be cancelled and struck from my record.

All seems to be drawing to a close now, thankfully.

They are a re-shipper. So if someone bought a PSU from them for $2,000 then they -would- have the item. They'd just buy it from Mouser/RS/etc and ship it on.

If they list it and don't supply it, I don't consider it a scam because they refunded the money. Because it's obviously an error. If they maybe sent a scam email (like in Dave's example - anatomy of eBay scam) trying to actually defraud someone, then it would be a scam.

They finally refunded me too (yesterday, but was away from a computer). But they are still playing games... by (still) just refunding via PayPal giving me the familiar unpaid item at eBay...
So, I paid again  :-DD Until those PEBKAC's do it the right way and cancel it from eBay, which will probably hurt their internal rating. Instead of hurting mine now because of a error they made..

Strange !

I got a message from ebay thet they can't cancel my order , only the seller can (i suppose its not true) ,
but i have it in my ebay messaging system.
They couldn't do more , but would gladly assist in a criminal investigation if contacted by the police.

I won't go that far , i just want the seller to cancel my ebay transaction (and not just refund me via PP) , that would be fine by me.

I got another message from seller , when writing that i need them to cancel.

Sincere apologies.
Our IT department is looking into this.
Don't worry we will cancel your order on eBay.
Sorry for any inconvenience we have caused.

But why does he need IT dept. for cancelling the order  :-\

/Bingo

Oh joy!

My Paypal account is now unusable and marked as possible suspicious activity, and I go around in circles resetting my password and getting security codes texted to me.

The two transactions are now marked as "UNPAID" on ebay.

Great.

They clearly haven't fixed their mess yet, as I found this while searching eBay:

In the "Others" section of their their shop they still have got well over 300 pages with electronic parts all priced AU $11.14. If that mess has to be cleaned up manually I'd say their "IT department" will have their hands full for quite a while...

Just got another payment returned and as last time, the order is still in eBay (as unpaid...) so I paid yet again  :-DD
Also send them some questions and remarks about a part of their email ( "I just got an email from suppliers advising that the manufacturers no longer make this item/model" ) and the fact they are currently selling it on their eBay store (at $10.000 ...)  :-DD

I just sent them a question about their auction. I asked them if this is another mistake like the power supplies.  A asked them if their system is still out of control, and whether their account had been hacked.

I questioned them about cancelling the sale, rather than me having an unpaid item.
This was their response.

Quote
The system glitch automatically set the prices of some of our items way below its true value. The issue was caused by a bug within our system that hasn't been resolved yet.
A cancellation link will be sent to your account, hopefully all the transactions will be refunded and cancelled within 24-48 hours. We already notified eBay about the glitch.
Again please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this situation has caused you.

Regards,

Riyah
Where are we going, and why are we in a handbasket?

I got the same response too (and more). I had send them a message complaining about the E.O.L. excuse and them still offering at $10k. And the wrong way of refunding causing me to have unpaid items in my eBay account. This was their full reply:

We already notified eBay about the glitch, you will not get a strike us an unpaid item.

Also we just called eBay and inquired why it's showing as unpaid item,
I was advised that 5 sites of eBay including Australia is having technical issue and they're IT department is currently trying to resolve the issue.

You will not get a strike us unpaid item.

Again please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this situation has caused you
They finally seem to acknowledge their mistake (which is what I was after, wasn't expecting ever getting a Keithley). Al tough I have my doubts about the parts that says eBay AU are having troubles... Seems a bit familiar (and their IT department fixing it  :-DD).
Any Aussies that can confirm or deny this?
