I'm sharing a video showcasing the use of the Magnova for measuring memristors, the fourth fundamental circuit element.
In the video, I'm utilizing the XY display mode with color-graded persistence to emphasize the variable parameters of the memristor across each switching cycle.
If you're on LinkedIn, feel free to check out the post:

As user of the scope, I have interest about every information.
But, of course, if an info is only relevant to provisory firmware, it has to be indicated to avoid confusion.

Best regards
Christian K

PS: I did not have any trouble with that until now (I ignored existence of beta firmware; have the habit to focus on info that may be usefull for me and ignore the rest).

The screenshot showed a tiny change compared to the current firmware – I hadn't seen that, otherwise I would have edited it accordingly. ;)
Won't happen again.

Regarding the touchscreen: when I use the knobs/rotators on the right, often the screen changes because my fingers are too close the screen.
So I have to undo the screen change.

Anyone else having this annoying side effect ?
Yes, I had the samekind of „finger trouble“. But I know that this issue is considered for the next update - which works for me 😎

A new firmware (V1.1.2) appeared  :)

The finger trouble is dealt with. And we have icons for measurements. Many icons. With scroll bars. And many changes others are more qualified to comment about.

Hi,

indeed, we have used the past days to finalize our next update, which is now available for download.
Again, we want to thank all our customers and testers for their support and constructive feedback.
Frequent readers of this thread will recognize feature and optimization requests articulated here in the new version.

See a list of the contained changes below. All customers will of course be informed accordingly.

Version 1.1.2 (30th October 2024)
New functionality:
  • Added background offset compensation functionality significantly reducing offset drift.[1]
  • Added graphical icons to simplify selection of appropriate automatic measurements.
  • Added FFT gate selection functionality (memory or screen).
  • Added display of currently utilized FFT support points.
  • Added optional signal inversion of analog channels.
  • Added optional GND coupling for analog channels.
  • Added quick selection and display functionality representing HiRes mode in the status bar.
  • Added "Default Settings" functionality allowing all measurement settings to be reset
without resetting all general device settings, as would be the case when using "Factory
    Settings" functionality.
  • Added ability to force a hard shutdown by holding the power button for approximately 5
    seconds.

Optimizations:
  • Optimized touch area next to the rotary knobs to prevent unintended touch inputs when
    interacting with rotary encoders.
  • Optimized reactiveness with regard to aborting Roll-Mode acquisitions at very large time
    scales.
  • Optimized reactiveness in cases of frequent channel baseline / offset changes.
  • Optimized responsiveness of (physical) buttons so that even very fast clicks can be
    considered.
  • Optimized XY intensity grading.
  • Optimized storage device compatibility.
  • Various minor improvements.

Bugfixes:
  • Fixed Period Area (+, -, Abs., General) measurements not providing valid results.
  • Fixed specific measurement stability issues.
  • Fixed incorrect channel deskew parameterization at 1.6 GSa/s.
  • Fixed some rare display and stability problems.
  • Other minor bug fixes.

Best regards,
the Batronix Team

Hi, just out of curiosity and because I'm currently in the market for a 4k oscilloscope - would you like to publish a screenshot of the new GUI ?

Hi Woyzeck,

we did not change the GUI in general, instead we added further information and illustration. For example we did change the measurement control dialog: Here we added icons to simplify selection of the available measurement types.
You find a screenshot attached (just a quick showcase setup).

Please let me know, if there is anything you would like to see in particular.

Is there some help function implemented in the scope GUI, preferably something that works similar to the Keysight help function?
Like, keeping your finger on the selection of some measurement function for 2s (or maybe a bit longer) to get a pop-up that displays the exact details of this function? For σ it would show the equation of standard deviation and so on. Or for high-res mode it could display achievable number of bits of resolution dependend on time base.

Hello,

What is the difference now between the "soft" and "hard" shutdown by the power button?
What method of shutting down is recommended for longer life of the device?

Thanks,

Currently, there is no additional help function.
Regarding the automatic measurements, we will add the equations utilized to the manual.
Functionality of the HiRes mode is independent from the time base. It is (simply speaking) a configurable filter that precedes further acquisition stages (such as trigger etc.) and its behavior only changes, when it is actively requested by the user.
The attached screenshot shows available values. Beginning with the above mentioned firmware 1.1.2, the currently active HiRes behavior will always be displayed in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.

What is the difference now between the "soft" and "hard" shutdown by the power button?
What method of shutting down is recommended for longer life of the device?
While the filesystem utilized in the Magnova storage system is resilient to immediate power loss etc., the "hard" shutdown should only be used in cases, where the device does not respond to any other inputs.
Only on "soft" shutdown will your measurement settings etc. be stored properly to become available at next start-up. This is the method that should always be preferred.
The hard shutdown functionality was originally added as "first response" to rare stability issues, that we assume to have resolved by now.

Hello,
Kind question André77.
When will it be possible to have the accessory to mount the Magnova in a rack? I would appreciate being able to implement it in various machines in our lab, but unfortunately, we need to be able to rack-mount it to maintain a professional appearance and following our procedures.

Hello LoneWolf6912!

I just wanted to let you know that we now offer the rack installation kit as an accessory.

That design is awesome, and well priced. Also useful to anybody that has or makes a VESA mount for their scope. 🤔😉

Yes, we're working on it. It will still take some more weeks, but the result will be an especially good transport solution. However, I don’t want to reveal any details just yet.  ;)

Hi All,

I have just joined the forum after following this thread on the Magnova. Thanks to all the users and the Batronix team (especially Steffen for all his help) for their sharing of information which has helped me make my decision on ordering a BMO350.

I have just received it and my first impressions are fantastic. It was well packaged and I seamlessly updated to the new firmware and performed the calibration procedure. I am still exploring all the capabilities but so far I am delighted with deciding to go with this device. I will be doing a mixture of power electronics and driver and control board development and I think it will give me everything I need. I look forward to extended functionality on power analysis, etc, and the fact that this strong community of feedback to Batronix exists, together with their fast responses and ongoing development, are a big part of choosing the Magnova over other alternatives.

I look forward to further contribution in this community!

Robin

I have firmware version 1.05.something, and am still waiting to get my step-by-step guide. When can I expect it? Will it involve a firmware update (as opposed to a software update)?

Hello ralphrmartin,

I have sent you a PM.

The Settings > "Information" dialog is currently not optimal:
  • The "Package" version corresponds to the complete set of software and firmware available in the system (including FPGA and peripheral controller firmware).
  • The "Firmware" version is only the version of the peripheral controller firmware.

2429107-0

We will optimize the utilized terms in the near future.

Hi,
I just received my BMO200. First it arrived with a display problem; now 10 days later it is back and repaired. They also upgraded the software from 1.07 to 1.12 - great service!
I only have a problem to access all available measurements, Vrms i.e.. It happens, that I can not scroll to more measurement types than the icons I see when measurement is selected. I am shure that I disregard something. The manual did not help as it is related to the older software without icons. Any hint?
b.r.
Peter
ps: Just played around a bit with the FFT - it is just overwelming how easy you can adjust frequency and span with a finger touch. I do not know if other modern scopes make it also that easy- my older Tek's and Siglent's FFT are by far not comparable. I mostly used some SA instead. The BMO can easily be used as a station monitor in a ham shack :-)

Hi Peter,

There is a scroll bar directly below the measurement icon list. We have already received this request from another user and will improve the visibility of the scrollbar or enable swiping of the icons.
