No teardown? Why turn on the scope if you can take it apart? :-//

I'd rather use the scope than break it.  :-DD

I'd love to see a teardown video if you want to buy the scope and do one!

Yeaaaah, I'm waiting for a teardown as well. Would be really interested to get some details from the internals, but I'm not willing to open ours  :scared:

I would only take my Magnova apart if there were a reason to repair it.
I’m not even curious about what might be inside; you generally know how an oscilloscope is built, and the Magnova is unlikely to be any different. ;)

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the interest in a teardown of the Magnova oscilloscope - we appreciate the curiosity.

A proper teardown would be great to see, and of course Dave would be the obvious expert for this kind of thing. If he has the time and interest, we’d be happy to provide him with a Magnova unit for an independent teardown video.

Alternatively, we could also do a teardown-style video ourselves here at Batronix. It wouldn’t have Dave’s charm, of course, but we’d still take the unit apart and show you what’s inside.  ;)

There are a few design details inside the Magnova that lead to its low noise floor, fanless operation, and a few other things. And since at least two of our competitors have already openly ordered Magnovas from us, I guess the “secret lab” phase is more or less over anyway.  8)

Best regards,
Andre

That's a great idea. It would be wonderful if you could make that happen.  :)

If Dave isn't available, just make sure somebody says "and Bob's your uncle" a couple times during the video.

...but hopefully not "trap for young players" or "flapping around in the breeze", to underline the good build quality...  ;)

My backlog of stuff to tear down and review is currently too big unfortunately.

Noooooo, too bad, I love your style of test gear teardowns!
But I get it, we all have limited time to our disposal so we have to prioritize. Still sad  ;D

Hi Dave,

thanks for the quick reply.

That’s completely understandable - I can imagine your backlog of teardowns and reviews is already more than full.

Here at Batronix, we have quite a few fans of your videos, and we know that many of our customers enjoy watching them as well. So of course it would have been great to see a Magnova teardown from you - but no worries at all.

If things look different in a few months, the offer still stands - we’d be happy to send you a Magnova unit for a teardown video.

Best regards,
Andre

How about sending one to Shariar (the Signal path)? He does very in-depth teardowns as well.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Hi @All,

has somebody configured the SMB share address with a host name instead of an IP address?
I can't get it to work.

Ethernet access to my windows PC (WIN-11) with a fixed network IP address works fine,
but when I try to use the host name instead, I can't get a connection.

host name is "JOHN-PC" so no fancy characters.

The reason to use the host name is, that after a reset of my router the IP address is changing
and I don't want to disable DHCP.

@Batronix: by the way...I forced a chrash of the scope (auto power-down)
when I tried to access the SMB share during this process.

Regardless of this "teardown topic", I have an other proposal:

As I am an old guy, who does feel even older nowadays, but was also part of the "selling business" a long time ago, I do know the german saying "...eine Hand wäscht die andere...", which means "...one hand washes the other - you help me and I help you", as we have the same aim...

Of course I am not involved in any "Handheld UNI-T DMM-contracts" by "Batronix" and can only speculate, but to be honest, I am no fan of UNI-T at all and therefore "Batronix" could ask for a listing of "EEVblog Multimeters", to give the customers at least a wider choice to select a new DMM and maybe support Mr. EEVblog himself.

As far as I know, welectron does sell "EEVblog DMMs" here in germany, but I guess Mr. EEVblog does not profit from this in the same way as selling them personally, when I remember his comment in one of his videos correctly, yes - just speculation...

Regardless of this "teardown topic", perhaps something could be arranged between "Batronix vs. Mr. EEVblog", having a "win-win-situation" (I hate this expression!) for the future - who knows...

And allthough I am also just a customer, who does buy from different sources, I have several examples where "Batronix" helped me out and gave me information so quickly, no other was even willing to do so!

Therefore, I trust this brand "Batronix" by all means and also their helpful employees and I'm not afraid, that a future "teardown video" wouldn't be honest!  ;)

That saying is older than both Germany and the German language. ;)

It’s been a long time since the last firmware update 🥸 Is there another update coming up before the summer break?

Is there a critical bug that still needs to be fixed?

Critical, no. But things like the cursor updates, and other features we're looking forward to, like the web console would be nice.

However, it's only 2.5 months since the last update. That's not terrrrrrrrrribly long. ;)

That's what I meant to say... ;)
We've been really spoiled when it comes to the frequency of updates.
Now it's time for us to be a little patient.

Batronix is probably also busy working on the PC software they wanted to release for the device.

It’s not just about the cursors. There are quite a few other features in the pipeline—such as the window layout, which was promised even before the oscilloscope launched, and improvements to the math functions, which (unlike on almost every other oscilloscope I know) still cannot be used for measurements. I’ve also submitted a few feature requests that Andre has agreed to add to the development list. So, there’s still plenty to look forward to.
Martin is right, of course! We’ve been spoiled by the support from Batronix. That said, the intervals between updates used to be shorter—and like a spoiled child... 🤪
