Hi HKJ,

I wrote a new device configuration file for the Fluke 8845A and 8846A DMMs.

IMG_3016 Fluke 8846A DMM-2000pix.jpg

As reported here the existing device file(s) did not work with DMMs with older firmware. Also it was a skeleton driver, LAN only, without Setup Menus.

This new configuration file supports all 884xA firmware versions. Also it supports all connection options of the 8845A/8846A: LAN, COM and GPIB. There are now full Setup Menu's:

Fluke 884xA v1.0 screenshot DC & dBm menu-1000pix.png

For reading values the FETCH3? command is replaced by READ?, which is supported in all 884xA firmware versions. A further advantage of using READ? is that it functions the same as the READ? command used in HP/Agilent DMMs. This helps to get readings which are more synchronous with other DMMs. Especially important when logging slowly up- or down ramping signals with longer integration times (like 100NPLC).

I also paid extra attention to the NULL (offset) function. When switching on the NULL function, there has to be a reading in the meter buffer. This is the reading that will be subtracted from the following measurements. Now, when switching ON the NULL function, the meter also takes a measurement. So there is always a reading in the buffer for the Math.

This time no frequency response curve, as it is already in your collection :).

Please find the definition file here: Fluke8845A-8846A.zip

For people that want to use this definition before it is added to TestController: You have to remove the old drivers "Fluke8845A.txt" and "Fluke8846A.txt" from the main TestController/Devices folder. The usual over-ride function for drivers in Documents/TestController/Devices does not work properly because of the use of #metadefs in this definition.

Regards, Gertjan.

Hello! Please add support for the Tektronix DMM4040 which is similar to FLUKE's 8845. Thank you.

The FLUKE 8845A profile doesn't fit.

You might be able to do it yourself.
If the protocol is exactly the same, only the *idn? is different it can be done by duplicating the #metadef section for 8845 and change the device name, handle and id.

I have a NI brand GPIB USB thing

GPIB-USB-HS

I got the NI driver for it. It says its on port 000009 in the device manager when I look through the detailed list of whatever it can dig up on it. It appears and disappeared from DM (as a NI device) when I plug it in and out of USB, so I know windows is seeing it

I assume this is COM 9.

I might not be com9, but even if it is a com port TC can only handle GPIB adapters it knows.

The FLUKE 8845A profile doesn't fit.

That is basically what I am talking about.
Copy everything from the first #metadef to the next #metadef, then modify these lines:
#idString FLUKE,8845A,
#name Fluke 8845A
#handle FL8845A

Please tell me how to increase the sensitivity of the chart and histogram so that even minor deviations in the price can be seen.

Are you saying the national instruments brand hardware is not supported?

I mean can you tell me the format its supposed to be in? Like the syntax of putting the name into the box. Do I just write com9? Or COM9? Or Com9? Or Com09, or Com00000009 or USB9 etc

Like what should I be writing here.

Is it supposed to auto detect the hardware and list it? Its completely unclear to me

What does it generally look like for a USB GPIB adapter? I mean the words in the text boxes when you click the GPIB button.

I don't know what the address is supposed to be. I only got the clue that its "9" from the driver information page. 'Com' was my guess. I saw the word Com thrown around in NI USB stuff before IIRC.

Please post your modified lines so I can add them to the file.

On the "Scales for charts" you adjust the scales, it can be either automatic or manual.  Be aware of the second auto checkmark, when checked it will include zero in the scale (David missed that).
For histograms you can adjust the bins setting below it.

In the posted chart you have checked the "Log" options, be careful with that.

I support on NI adapter. All GPIB is handled on the GPIB popup where you can also see the names of the supported adapters.

You generally have to type the port name (i.e. com9), but on the "Load devices" page you can also right click while in editing mode and TC will list detected serial ports (This do not work on the GPIB page).

I know that the Tektronix DM4040 and DM4050 are very similar to the Fluke 8845A and Fluke 8846A.
Soon I will have a Tek DM4050 for testing. Then I will add them to the Fluke 884xA driver, or create a separate Tek DM40x0 driver.

regards, Gertjan.

Please tell me how I can include 6 characters.

This is controlled from the #value lines, but they are already configured to show all digits. This means the meter do not send more digits on the interface.

You can temporary change the number of digit by right clicking on a table column and adjust the format.

Yes, it helped. 8 characters show. Thank you.

The format you select in the table can also be specified in the #value definition.

This is a bit more complicated. An integer variable is specified and its range is from 0-6 characters. Where it's defined isn't clear to me. Should I just use "Si8" instead of "Si"?

If you want SI8 format then yes, other are X8 or D8.
SI means use SI prefix like m, the number puts a limit on the total number of digits that can be shown.
X means up to number of digits after point
D means always use number of digits after point.

It remains to deal with "Math". )))

Noob question, I see the Keysight U1272A DMM in the supported list but how does it connect to Test Controller?

I only have the Keysight U1177A IR-to-BT adapter, will that work, or do I need a Keysight U1173B IR-to-USB?

Thanks!

Please tell me how to correctly write the formula in Match.

((TEKDMM4040.Volt DC-1)/1)*100

You need the cable, this will create a serial port on the PC.

The issue is the spae in the names (That is sort of a bug that TC did not fix it).

Change your formula to:
((TEKDMM4040.Volt_DC-1)/1)*100
I.e. add a _

This will probably fix it.
