I'm pretty curious how many magnovas are out there in the wild by now. Here in the forum it seems to be only a handful of people with one.
I'm totally aware that Batronix will likely not want to give detailed insights into sales numbers, but wether there are a few dozen, a few hundred or already a few thousand units in end user hands would be quite thrilling to know :D

Based on serial numbers, I would estimate 150 - 200 devices in the last 12 month, if all BMO devices shares the same SN pool

Has anybody used an external display with the Magnova yet? I tried using a couple different DisplayPort to HDMI adapters to connect it to my office TV, and it didn't work.

The manual also mentioned using USB ports for external touch displays, and that didn't work for me either. I didn't see any display options change when either were connected.

Thanks,
Josh

Yeah, I connected a 32" monitor to see if that worked.

And it did, using a DP-DP cable. Largest scope screen I ever sat in front of 😀

Biggest scope I've seen was Picoscope on 65" screen, and a touch one too...  :-DD

Hi Josh,

It sounds like you might be using a passive DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, which wouldn't work properly for the Magnova. You need to use an active DisplayPort to HDMI adapter that supports the DisplayPort 1.2A standard.

We've been using the ICZI IZEC-A94 active DP/HDMI adapter here and at various events, and it has worked flawlessly with all monitors and beamers so far.

For touch input, make sure you're using a standard USB A-B cable (host side on the Magnova, device side on the monitor). This should automatically transfer the touch inputs from the monitor to the Magnova. Of course, it must also be a touch monitor...  ;)

Best regards,
Andre

Thanks! I had a feeling that might be the case.

Does that mean the USB only supports touch? Not touch + display? The manual is slightly ambiguous:

Two additional USB 3.0 host ports, e.g., for mouse, keyboard, USB sticks, an external touch display or a touch-enabled projector.

To me, that sounds like the USB can do both display + touch. If that's not the case, I would suggest updating the language so that's clear.

I have a 15.6" USB-C touch display that can do both off 1 or 2 USB cables, depending on the device requirements. Or HDMI for video + USB for touch. Of course, it's pointless with the Magnova since it's not any better than the Magnova's screen, but it didn't work with USB only when I tested it.

Thanks,
Josh

I have my SML03 hooked up again, so I played with the AM+FM modulation to see what it looks like on the Magnova.

The adapter Andre suggested wasn't available to me, but I found another one that works great: Cable Matters 8K DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1.

It is always amazing how compact the Magnova looks, even though it has a 15.6" screen.

Seriously! Look how small it looks compared to my SDS2504X HD...  :-DD

I tried with a Huion tablet which uses USB-C on the tablet and a split cable USB A and HDMI adapter (and another USB-A for power) which worked absolutely fine. 😀

That doesn't surprise me. ;) USB can do both touch and video without the HDMI if the device it's connected to supports it. That's the question; if the Magnova supports USB video out or not. If it doesn't, that should be made clear in the manual.

as standard USB3 supports DP alt mode yes but from personal experience that was always tricky and kind of pain if not properly implemented in past luxury notebooks
USB3 is not USB-C with speeds like 10-40 GB/s so one could hope/expect this feature from USB-C connector perhaps but still whole architecture and chipset must be made this way - I suppose it is not the case if already not described in manual

BTW congrats on new scope :)

Touch support from Huion or Cintiq would require a proper driver in scope -> I suppose too much work for only few users to benefit

I made a full coverage screen protector in Lightburn (for laser cutting). I made two options in the file. 1. is to cut out a full coverage screen protector from edge to edge. 2. is just the holes for the knobs, which I used on a 17.3" screen protector...which I thought was going to be oversized, but nope lol. It fits pretty darn well.

Thanks,
Josh

Is it wise to put more clothes on something that already runs hot ?

It's not a blanket, the screen was never an issue, and it doesn't really run hot now anyway. I have the fan set to always on to keep it cool, and it's still quieter than my SDS2504X HD. ;)

For the record, I would never cover a vent with a screen protector.  :-DD

Hello,

can you measure the mains frequency with the Magnova by triggering on “line”?

Best regards

A new user manual  and a new datasheet (v1.2, 21/08/25) are online. Seems like a chapter 7 is added to the UM for the generator.

Be careful with cheap plastic screen protectors if screenquality matters to you, as they can introduce their own drawbacks.

On LCDs (such as TFT panels commonly used in scopes), they can cause a hazy appearance, almost resembling IPS glow.
This happens because the plastic film interferes with the display’s polarization layers, creating slight birefringence and a milky effect.

Higher-quality protectors, such as tempered glass or well-engineered PET films, are typically coated to minimize these sub-reflections and avoid polarization conflicts.
