Test Equipment / Re: Choosing between entry-level 12-bit DSOs

Let's see whether they are brave enough to distribute it. The DHO1000 hacking took a similar approach of decompiling and patching the executables, back in December. I keenly followed that effort, since I had a DHO1074 at the time and was hoping to see the 50 Ohm inputs and 400 MHz bandwidth enabled.

Back then, the developer(s) never made their modifications available to others and eventually pulled the plug on that effort -- due to legal concerns in my understanding. Rigol does explicitly forbid reverse engineering and decompiling in their license terms. Of course we have not seen them act on this, but who is willing to run the experiment?

It will be a crime not to share :)
BTW, it's better to keep decompiled sources in git rather than an assembled .apk

It's an interesting question what Rigol will think and possibly do about this. Hosting copies of their copyrighted binaries on a public server is probably violating license terms already. Hosting and sharing decompiled sources might be beyond their pain threshold?

Or maybe they don't care. Who is brave enough to run the experiment?  ::)

You may not resell, decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, or otherwise convert the Software to a human perceivable form.

That's a good point. Legally, it's questionable at least.

Well, it then could be a private repo with access for trusted forum members :).

Another option would be to keep only diffs in the repo.

How much per day?

You can always recycle it and hope that your tank is concentrating the heavy stuff.
Shaping the tank and creating a vortex in it may help.
You must also measure what you get so few more sensors are probably acceptable.

I have spent the last few weeks roaming about in France and in Provence I saw many waterwheels but none in use. Originally they elevated water or provided motive power for mills or factories. None are in practical use any more. They are kept only as tourist attractions.  Since the wheels and water canals are already there you could think they could be easily adapted to generating electrical power but it looks like it just isn't worth it.

Each individual cable loosely coiled inside a ziplock bag, with a descriptive label on a card insert. All the bags stacked filing cabinet style (on edge) so the labels are visible, in a drawer. Apart from mains leads, which breed when you don’t look at them.

How do you know that the 50uA current source is 50uA?

To avoid confusion, the 'airgap' doesn't usually contain air! Except for cores gapped by grinding the center limb, its more usual for the gap to be filled with an insulator of some sort to provide the required spacing.

Additionally, the core may be gapped by mixing a small percentage of tiny glass spheres into the glue, with the size of the spheres chosen for the required gap.   It can be extremely difficult to distinguish between a core gapped this way, and an ordinary glue line.

Unless you measure the outside dimension of the core, across the glue line or gap, with a micrometer (after removing tape etc. and cleaning the exterior surfaces) before disassembly, and measure again after reassembly, you wont know how accurately you have re-established the original core gap (or lack thereof).
