General Technical Chat / Re: Is LinkedIn worth keeping?
« Last post by HuronKing on Today at 04:14:27 pm »
I maintain my LinkedIn account but I don't contribute to any of the social media aspects of it. The public discussions are vapid and pointless. But, I have received legitimate job offers through it including from Tesla Inc. and I went through the whole interview process (including a chat with Dave Baglino) before I told them to go f**k themselves (the relocation offer was a joke).

In my particular case, I am also a part-time professor so my students connect to me on LinkedIn and I am happy to let them use connecting to me to help bolster their profiles and help them find jobs.

I've also been contacted by random students at other universities who are interesting in how to break in to my field. I'm always happy to give 30 minutes of time to a student who is brave enough to cold message me to ask for career guidance.

Microcontrollers / Re: Memory model for Microcontrollers

Don't you think we are moving from the main issues of the thread? By the way, I shared the photos that were on my mobile, and I have many other pictures as well

I'm definitely not knowledgeable on this (so please take with a pinch of salt anything I type on this topic!).
Apologies if it is not helping.

When I was trying to experiment with a LISN, I used the layout below. The coils are separated greatly, for little interaction. Everything was taped to the inside of a (sanded to be conductive) metal cookie tin, so it was shielded.
Unfortunately I don't have this setup any more to run any tests.

Ok, i am asking here, because regarding the analog/RF part, i am also lacking experience. (But i have a grid license).

A bit of additional background:
I want this in the end to be usable with mains supply/DUT. That means 2 or 4 parallel LISN. If i just use open wires as inductors, i would expect them to couple between each other (like a transformer), pick up all sorts of foreign noise (like an antenna) and transmit some of the DUT noise.
So i expect to need some sort of shielded inductor and/or a toroidal setup to keep the magnetic field loop short. Using standard inductors seemed the easier thing to do, but i may have to try again with different ones.

Because i intend to use this on mains, the special thing i plan to do, is have separate "Protective Earth" and "Functional Earth". So i need a groud arrangement, that is separate for electrical safety rules, but connected for RF rules.
My plan is to have a LISN that is more useful to me, but i compromise on standards compliance, precision, etc.

My problem with the inductor parasitic capacitance /SRF is much more basic. I wanted to work around the parasitic capacitance of one part by adding others in series. That seems not to work the way i expected it.

For people interested in the thread material, now that you've already read right through to the end there's another great source of information similar to some of what's on here, a follow-along-at-home tutorial series on using DSOs that covers a lot of what's been discussed here in tutorial format.  I found it really helpful in updating my CRO-based knowledge.

This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for.  THANKS!!  Maybe should be a sticky???

Microcontrollers / Re: SD Card reliability in SPI mode
« Last post by Vojtech on Today at 04:08:12 pm »
Keep in mind that writing to SD slows down as the card fills up and when passing through certain addresses - 1 G etc. Try this test: Fill the SD card to about 90-95% in the PC with files with Your usuall size and then insert it into your device and start writing. SD cards are quite reliable, I use them in a similar mode - FatFS, SPI, 8051 uP for several years in continuous operation without any problems.

Buy/Sell/Wanted / Re: Canceled Because Thread All Shit Up by "tggzzz"
« Last post by tatel on Today at 04:07:46 pm »
It's a Buy/Sell/Wanted forum- not the place to shit on the item!
After some thought, I think OP handled it well including naming the turd slinger.

It takes just one person to ruin a thread, a venture etc. It's a tough crowd here.

Not going to get into any arguments, but I don't think the "turd slinger" is to blame, really.

IIRC other people selling items as a business have been banned recently, just for that, even if he didn't behave like this hemorrhoid guy at all. It seems, this forum is for the people to sell old stuff they don't want anymore, not for businesses to have an outlet.

Maybe I agree with that, maybe not, but it doesn't matter in this case. It really looked like this guy was using not just the Buy/Sell/Wanted section, but also others, to make his "products" known... going from a thread to the next, looking for a place where he could do his thing "à plaisir". I think he deserved to be banned just for that... but if there where any doubts, his utterly rude, arrogant, spoiled child behavior marks him as an insane guy.

He deleted the listings he himself linked a week ago... then after some days he edits thread subject, deletes his posts, and states that he will open a new thread where -it seems- he couldn't be criticized? To me it means he has been in rage these days... again, spoiled child-like. Not an adult behavior. This guy is nuts. Time to increase the medication.

Exactly! His entrepreneurial spirit is applauded, his attitude is shunned.

If he had come here asking humbly “guys, I am a beginner who would like to build and sell these devices on Ebay, what do you think? How can I improve these while keeping a low cost?” He would likely have received plenty of useful advice. But his stubbornness to defend the indefensible, that is why he aggravated everyone.

+1. That would have been the sensible approach IMO

Hi,
Dear @BTO,
To explain better, and you understand:
You stated that:
“Anyway, it all works, I think you just didn't use the IMPORT option”
Check my msg #62, in (item #4) that I used the (IMPORT) function to bring the IMGs saved in Drive (C) to a position in the Table (Refx).

The central issue is that you can IMPORT (10 IMGs) saved in Drive (C), and load them into Memory positions (Ref1 -> Ref10). But you can't use it (ONE AT A TIME). Check out:
(Press -> CLEAR) and try running just one IMG saved in the (Ref Table).

As for your message #65, you understood my question regarding SlewRate measurement, and forwarded it to the solution. It's great that you were able to open this solution channel with the Rigol Engineer.

I have other similar UI questions, in the Bode Plote and FFT functions. I will produce a coherent text, and post it here for you and other colleagues, to see if there is any viable solution.
Much obliged.

This is a temporary link just for you,  I will include this video into the normal deep dive video link

Thanks guys, very kind.
So I don't activate this bandwidth limitation and live in peace. I will let the oscilloscope receive the entire frequency band (200Mhz). Small deviation: while on the Micsig differential probe there is a button to limit the band to 5Mhz, but in this case I believe that for lower signals it is better to activate it, so I have a much cleaner and less noisy signal. Of course if there were peaks every now and then beyond that, I would lose them...  :-/O

Test Equipment / Re: Siglent SDS2000 new V2 Firmware
« Last post by euforia51 on Today at 04:05:11 pm »
Hello, my oscilloscope model is SDS2034. I want to turn on the decoding and signal generator functions of this oscilloscope to get the correct accessory serial number
Do you have a way?

Hello... first time post question. I've been following the blog for a while looking for a solution to re-enable the AWG for my SDS2104X.
Same issue as above.
I want to enable the AWG and other options if possible. The AWG is a priority.
Following the blog, I learned my scope does not have a built in web server.
And therefore, I cannot enable these options so easily, if at all.

I've had the scope for several years now and did not realize when I purchased it that the AWG was on a temporary license.
It was finally disabled about a month or so ago. I used it a lot and rarely turned it off.

Hopefully, someone can help. I didn't want to start a new topic as I'm pretty sure this has been covered in many threads.
But maybe there's a way I haven't seen yet.

Thanks very much!

Wouldn't worry about electrolytics today, they are pretty reliable.

Anyone have a modern quality electrolytic fail recently in a well designed instrument? We can't recall anything!

Recall that KS ages the select LM399 ~1000hrs, anyone know for sure?

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/metrology/lm399-drift-tendency-with-age-(which-direction)/msg1213116/#msg1213116

See Dr Franks post #3 in link above, and #1 an #2.

Best,
